وزيرٌa minister رَضِىwas content منof بأسِهhis might وانتقامِهand his vengeance
وزيرٌ رَضِى من بأسِه وانتقامِه
بطَىِّwith folding رِقاعٍsheets of paper حشوُهاwhose contents are النطمُverse (reading النطم as النظم) والنثرُand prose
بطَىِّ رِقاعٍ حشوُها النطمُ والنثرُ
A minister content to let his might and vengeance
amount to folding sheets filled with verse and prose,
كماjust as تسجعcoos الوَرقاءthe gray dove فوقabove غصونهاher branches
كما تسجع الوَرقاء فوق غصونها
وليسand there is not لهاfor her نهىٌa prohibition يطاعthat is obeyed ولاnor أمرُa command
وليس لها نهىٌ يطاع ولا أمرُ
like the gray dove cooing above her branches,
with no prohibition of hers obeyed, nor any command.
