علَى مَن تبيعُ متاعَ الأدبْ

علَى مَن تبيعُ متاعَ الأدبْ

وتنثُرُ دُرَّ كلام العرَبْ

وتنثُرُ دُرَّ كلام العرَبْ

To whom do you sell the wares of literature,

To whom do you sell the wares of literature

and scatter the pearls of the Arabs’ speech?

And scatter the pearls of the words of Arabs

ومن يستحقُّ حُلِىَّ المديح

ومن يستحقُّ حُلِىَّ المديح

يصاغُ له كحُلِىّ الذهبْ

يصاغُ له كحُلِىّ الذهبْ

And who deserves the jewels of praise,

And who deserves the adornments of praise

fashioned for him like ornaments of gold?

That are forged for him like jewelry of gold
