تُعابُare blamed معاشرٌgroups of people وكَلَواthey entrusted البراياhumankind
تُعابُ معاشرٌ وكَلَوا البرايا
إلىto تدبيرgovernance ذىone possessing رأىٍjudgment أفينِfeeble
إلى تدبير ذى رأىٍ أفينِ
Some people are blamed for entrusting humankind
A group is blamed, though they traversed the wilds
To the governance of one whose judgment is feeble.
Seeking to govern with wisdom and thought.
وماand not غلِطواthey erred ورأَواand they saw سفهَfolly اللياليthe nights
وما غلِطوا ورأَوا سفهَ الليالي
فداووْاso they treated بالجنونwith madness منfor الجنونِmadness
فداووْا بالجنون من الجنونِ
Yet they did not err: they saw the folly of the nights,
They erred not, though deemed the nights were unwise,
So they treated madness with madness.
Curing madness with madness they wrought.
