رأتني الغواني قد ترديت شملةً

وأزرت أخرى فازدرتني عيونها
The beauties saw me already draped in a wrap,
The maidens saw me in tattered clothes,
and girded with another, so their eyes scorned me.
So they scorned me with their eyes.

And in my wrap, if they only knew, is a surge
If only they knew the tale of my garment -
of reckless folly, whose very madness is mad for them.
Madness from ignorance has made them mad.
