أصبحت ماليَ من عز ألوذبه

أصبحت ماليَ من عز ألوذبه

إلا التعرز بعد السيف والبدن

إلا التعرز بعد السيف والبدن

I have come to have no protecting might in which to seek refuge,

I now have no strength in which to seek refuge,

Save proud self-reliance, after the sword and coat of mail.

Except withdrawal, after the sword and armor,

بعرضةٍ جانب الأدنون جانبها

بعرضةٍ جانب الأدنون جانبها

والأهل بالشام والإخوان باليمن

والأهل بالشام والإخوان باليمن

In an exposed tract whose flank the nearest kin have shunned,

At ʿUrḍa, whose bounds my nearest kin have shunned,

While my family are in the Levant, and my brothers in Yemen.

While my family is in al-Sham, and my brothers in Yemen.
