ولا تأمنن الدهر صرم حبيب

Never, while time endures, despair of an enemy’s friendship;

So never despair of friendship with a foe;

nor, while time endures, feel safe from a beloved’s estrangement.

And never feel safe from a loved one's estrangement.

وليس بعيداً كل آت فواقع

وليس بعيداً كل آت فواقع

ولا ما مضى من مفرح بقريب

ولا ما مضى من مفرح بقريب

Whatever is coming is not far off—for it will surely come to pass;

Nothing that is coming is far off—it will come to pass;

nor is any bygone delight close at hand.

Nor is any joy that has passed near at hand.

وكل الذي يأتي فأنت نسيبه

وكل الذي يأتي فأنت نسيبه

ولست لشيء قد مضى بنسيب

ولست لشيء قد مضى بنسيب

All that is yet to come—you are its kin,

And whatever comes, you are its kinsman;

but you are kin to nothing that has passed.

And you are no kinsman to anything that has passed.
