And my young she-camel moaned with longing after a lull.

My heart yearned silently after youth's clamor,

Oh, what a fright—how her yearning cry startled my heart!

What graceful one has stirred up my heart's longing!

حنت في عقاليها وشب لعينها

حنت في عقاليها وشب لعينها

سنا بارقٍ يسرى فجن جنونها

سنا بارقٍ يسرى فجن جنونها

She moaned in her two hobbles, and before her eyes flared

She inclined towards me and glanced with eyes

the gleam of lightning traveling by night; so her frenzy ran wild.

That shot forth a radiant tooth that kindled her madness;

فقلت لها صبراً فكل قرينةٍ

فقلت لها صبراً فكل قرينةٍ

مفارقها لا بد يوماً قرينها

مفارقها لا بد يوماً قرينها

So I said to her, 'Patience! For every mate

So I said: "Patience, for every companion

must one day be parted from her companion.'

Must one day leave their companion."

وما برحت حتى ارعوينا لصوتها

وما برحت حتى ارعوينا لصوتها

وحتى انبرى منا معينٌ يعينها

وحتى انبرى منا معينٌ يعينها

And she did not cease until we heeded her voice,

Yet I did not budge until we were startled by her voice,

and until a helper stepped forward from among us to help her.

And until a trusted friend rose to help her.

فقلت لها حني رويداً فإنني

فقلت لها حني رويداً فإنني

وإياك نبدي عولةً سنبينها

وإياك نبدي عولةً سنبينها

So I said to her, 'Moan gently, for I

So I said to her, when we paused: "You and I

and you voice a lament we shall make plain.'
