Ah, who is there for a heart whose vital parts have been struck?

Alas! For a heart whose love has been wounded

Within it is a ravaging thirst that never leaves it;

By longing that does not fade

ومعتصبٍ بالبين لم تستطع له

ومعتصبٍ بالبين لم تستطع له

كلاماً ولم تصرم لبينٍ حبائله

كلاماً ولم تصرم لبينٍ حبائله

And one bent on parting, to whom you could not say

And by separation that could not be overcome

a word, nor did you sever his ties on account of parting;

With words nor torn apart for this separation to end

وعينٍ رماها اللَه بالشوق كلما

رأت حيث يلقى مصرم الحبل حايله

رأت حيث يلقى مصرم الحبل حايله

And an eye that God struck with longing whenever

And an eye that God has filled with longing whenever

it saw where the cord's severer meets the one who twists it.

It sees where the ropes of love meet and entwine
