My two friends, if you come upon al-Hadb, or there appears
My friend, if you meet the plateau or begin
Before you the slope of al-Wadka, weep with all your strength.
You have the support of loyal friends if you cry vigorously
سلاعبدyou two, ask Abd الأعلىal-A‘la حيثwhen أوفىhe climbed عشيةًone evening

Ask Abd al-A‘la: when one evening he climbed
Ask the Most High where the evening was most faithful
Khazazi and cast his gaze afar, did he glimpse Najd?
My bags and extending of hands, did you sense Najd

For it is not out of hatred for Najd that I am here,
For there is no heart for Najd that has become here
Beside Mount al-Awshal, using a cloak for shelter.
To the mountain of sand dunes hiding the cold

But a young man's needs cast him far away,
But the needs of the youth threw him
When he finds no escape from pursuing them.
If he cannot find who to request them from

Spare me talk of Najd, for its years
He called me from Najd, for its years
Toyed with us when gray-haired, and turned us gray while still beardless.
Played with us white hair, and we made it white stubbornly

May God curse Najd! How it leaves a generous man
May Allah water Najd, how can it leave this dew
Miserly, while you take a freeborn tribesman for a slave.
Stingy, and the heat of the people, you think it a servant
علىnotwithstanding أنthat نجداًNajd قدindeed كسانيhas clothed me حلةa garment

Yet Najd has clothed me in a garment—
Yet Najd dressed me in a garment
Whenever an ignorant man sees me, he takes me for a slave:
If an ignorant saw me, he would think me a servant

I had seen myself in Najd at ease, wearing a cloak.
It showed me in Najd, smooth and wearing cold

And Najd, when gentle rains fall generously upon it,
And Najd, when the arrows of life were generous with it
You see maknan there, and thick-growing trefoil.
I saw it stubborn and excellent shedding

May God water Najd with spring and summer rains;
May Allah water Najd from a spring and summer
And what do you hope for from spring rain that has watered Najd?
And what more can you wish from a spring that watered Najd

Have you not seen that the night grows shorter
Did you not see that the night shortens its length
In Najd, and the clear waters there grow colder?
In Najd and the stars increase its cold

وللبيضand for fair women والفتيانand young men منزلةًan abode حمداworthy of praise
Yes, it was indeed a delight to live in,
Yes, it used to be a joy of living
And a home worthy of praise for fair women and young men.
And for the whites and youths an abode of praise
