متى صحَّ بين اثنين حبٌّ تأكَّدت
مواثيقهُits pledges فالموتُand so death آخرُthe end عهدهِits bond
مواثيقهُ فالموتُ آخرُ عهدهِ
Whenever love between two is true, firmly established
When love between two is made true
Are its pledges; death marks the end of its bond.
Its covenants affirmed, death seals the vow
فلاso no خيرَgood فيin حبٍّlove يزولُfades away لعارضٍbecause of a passing difficulty
فلا خيرَ في حبٍّ يزولُ لعارضٍ
ولاnor فيin حبيبٍa beloved لاثباتَno constancy لودّهِin his affection
ولا في حبيبٍ لاثباتَ لودّهِ
So there is no good in love that fades at a passing difficulty,
No good is love which fades for passing cause
Nor in a beloved whose affection has no constancy.
Nor loving friend whose heart proves false or new
خذtake النصحَthe counsel منfrom صبٍّa lovesick lover يقيمremains علىon الوفاfaithfulness
خذ النصحَ من صبٍّ يقيم على الوفا
يدومُhe endures علىthrough هزلjest الزمانtime وجدّهِand its earnestness
يدومُ على هزل الزمان وجدّهِ
Take counsel from a lovesick lover who remains faithful,
Take wisdom from one firm in constancy
Who endures through time’s jest and its earnestness.
Who weathers time's caprice, and slights its row
