Neither wealth nor glory, luxury nor bliss

No, nor glory, serenity, or bliss,

Can satisfy me if sincere companions I miss

دون خِلٍّ مُخلصٍ يرفعني

دون خِلٍّ مُخلصٍ يرفعني

بالهوى من حالة الوحش البَهِيم

بالهوى من حالة الوحش البَهِيم

Without a faithful friend who lifts me

Who lift me through love from the beast's lowliness

Through love from the state of an unreasoning beast.

To the sublime heights of spiritual nobleness

يحسبُ العيشَ بدوني شقوةً

يحسبُ العيشَ بدوني شقوةً

وحياتي دونهُ نَزعٌ أَليم

وحياتي دونهُ نَزعٌ أَليم

He considers life without me misery,

Without me they suffer in cheerless distress

And my life without him is the agony of dying.

And my life without them is joy's emptiness

بوجودي افتديهِ وهوَ بالر

بوجودي افتديهِ وهوَ بالر

وح يفديني بقلبِ مُستَهِيم

With my being I ransom him, while he, with his

To free them I'd give myself with gladness

Soul, ransoms me with a heart consumed by love.

While they for my freedom would give their lives' blindness

يا فؤادي إن تسنَّى مثل ذا

يا فؤادي إن تسنَّى مثل ذا

عِش سعيداً خالداً أومُت كريم

عِش سعيداً خالداً أومُت كريم

O my heart, if such a friend is within reach,

O heart, if you gain such a priceless blessing

Live happy and immortal, or die nobly.

Then live in triumph or die while progressing
