هذا مثالي لدَيكم حاضرٌ أبداً

هذا مثالي لدَيكم حاضرٌ أبداً

والرسم في مذهبي خيرٌ منَ الجسدِ

والرسم في مذهبي خيرٌ منَ الجسدِ

This likeness of me is forever present with you;

My ideal for you is always present

And in my view, the portrait is better than the body.

And painting in my doctrine is better than the body

فالجِسمُ يذهَبُ بعد الموتِ مندَثِراً

فالجِسمُ يذهَبُ بعد الموتِ مندَثِراً

والرسمُ يلبثُ موجودا إلى الأبَد

والرسمُ يلبثُ موجودا إلى الأبَد

For the body vanishes after death, decaying away,

For the body perishes after death scattered

And the portrait remains in existence for eternity.

While the painting remains existing forever
