جمعتgathered بهاin it الحكَّامُthe rulers كلَّevery مزيَّةٍmerit
جمعت بها الحكَّامُ كلَّ مزيَّةٍ
ابداًalways تحبّبُmakes appealing نحوهاtoward it الأسفاراthe journeys
ابداً تحبّبُ نحوها الأسفارا
The rulers have gathered there every merit
They amassed in it every glory,
that always makes journeys toward it inviting.
The journeys forever incline towards it.
لاnot ينفقونthey spend زمانهمtheir time بسفاسفٍon trifles
لا ينفقون زمانهم بسفاسفٍ
تذرleaves البلادَthe land بلاقعاًdesolate wastes وقفاراand barren wildernesses
تذر البلادَ بلاقعاً وقفارا
They do not spend their time on trifles
They spend not their time on trifles,
that leave the land desolate and barren.
Leaving the lands a barren desert.
هذيthese المعاهدthe abodes لاnot طويلعTuwayliʿ واللوىand al-Liwā
هذي المعاهد لا طويلع واللوى
هذيthese المشاهدthe sights لاnot مدائنcities درDar (name as written)
هذي المشاهد لا مدائن در
These are the abodes—not Tuwayliʿ and al-Liwā;
These buildings are not long lasting,
these are the sights—not the cities of Dar.
These sights are no lasting cities.
