The hand of craftsmanship has raised within its bounds

peaks whose horns butt against the moons,

from every lofty palace whose balconies

reveal maidens when late afternoon comes:

bright-faced, enchanting, putting dolls to shame,

    fair and dark, bashful virgins.

They strut above the rooftops, smiling,

joyful, while they are drunk on bliss.

They gaze at wayfarers with eyes

    that convey secrets to lovers.

They set in the window, without intending to,

nets by which men become captives.
