    O you who deny closeness to lovers,

    Out of spite and baseness of character—your hope is dashed.

    They race to meddle, unaware

    That love was ordained from all eternity.

    يسمو بمن يأوي حماهُ الى زَحَل

    And love, the cradle of virtue, remains supreme;

    It lifts whoever seeks its sanctuary to Saturn.

    The ignoble cannot tear it away

    From the breast of one through whom you knew the giver of life to those of old.

    Who can prevent the union

    Of two joined by the cord of love?

    Until the two souls became a single soul,

    They draw each other toward union while bodily apart.

    O fools, can the bees' united effort

    To harm the honey-gatherer keep him from harvesting honey?

    And denial inflames the lover and increases his

    Ardor; once the will is set, what can be done?

    كم حوَّلت قاع البحار إلى جبل

    Indeed, will is queen of existence;

    How often it has turned the seabed into a mountain!

    So leave off reproach, abandon talk, and hasten

    Toward goodness, and cure those ills.
