فيin بحرthe sea جودكyour generosity أمسىhas become
في بحر جودك أمسى
بحرthe sea النوالof bounty غريقاdrowned
بحر النوال غريقا
In the sea of your generosity now lies
In your sea of generosity
the sea of bounty, drowned.
The sea of favors has drowned
والمالand wealth اصبحhas begun يشكوto complain
والمال اصبح يشكو
منكfrom you الجفاءَharshness حقيقاwith good reason
منك الجفاءَ حقيقا
And wealth has begun to complain
And money has come to complain
of your harshness toward it, with good reason.
Of your true aloofness
فياso O محمدMuhammad مهلاًgently
فيا محمد مهلاً
كنbe بالنضارwith gold رفيقاgentle
كن بالنضار رفيقا
So, O Muhammad, gently!
So Mohammad, wait
Be gentle with gold.
Be gentle with the pure
ياO صادقfaithful to الوعدthe promise ياO مَنyou who
يا صادق الوعد يا مَن
صيَّرتyou made قلبيmy heart رقيقاa slave
صيَّرت قلبي رقيقا
O you who keep your word, O you who
O you true to your word, you who
have made my heart a slave.
Made my heart tender
كلَّall الكرامthe generous فريقاًa company
كلَّ الكرام فريقاً
اضحواthey have become وأنتَand you فريقاa company
اضحوا وأنتَ فريقا
All the generous, as one company,
All the generous became a group
now stand—and you, a company apart.
While you remained singular
