قدindeed نلتِyou received منof حبيmy love وفرطand the intensity of ولوعيmy passion
If Brahma had received from me as much
If Barham had attained from me as much as
As you have received of my love and my intense passion,
I gained of love, passion, and yearning for you

He would have prepared for me a rank above the angels,
He would have ranked me above angels
And the gardens of eternity would have become some of my abodes.
And made the gardens of eternity just one of my meadows

When your highest light shone upon
When the light of your most high essence shone upon
My mind, my whole being settled upon loving you.
My mind, my whole self settled on loving you

Before I affirmed your beauty's oneness among humankind,
Before professing your peerless beauty
My heart had not been crushed, nor had my tears flowed.
My heart never broke nor my tears flowed

So to you returned my supplication and my night prayers,
So to you belongs the merit of my supplication and vigil
And in your presence my pleading and humble reverence grew sweet.
And with you lies the joy of my pleading and humility

And you are indeed my soul's sanctuary and its heaven,
You are the sanctuary of my soul and its sky
And you are indeed the qibla of my prostration and bowing.
You are the direction of my prostration and bowing

You are the one I mean when I say, 'O
It's you I mean when I say "O my Master"
My lord, have pity on my abasement and submission.'
Be gentle with my lowliness and humility

From you comes life; through you comes death; on you
With you is life, through you is death, in you
I rely; to you I return when I flee.
I trust, to you I return when I escape

Be unjust, oppress, and rule as you please; show no mercy.
Wrong me, oppress me, show no mercy
Let my blood flow, for the slave is the most obedient.
The servant is best when obedient

The worlds have never fashioned a passionate lover like me,
No creatures were created loving so much before or after me
Before me or after me, bereft of sleep.
Or as bereft, not hoping to be sated
