غازلتُهُ فتلهَّبت

غازلتُهُ فتلهَّبت

وجَنَاتُه تذكي القبَس

وجَنَاتُه تذكي القبَس

I flirted with him, and they blazed up—

his cheeks, kindling the flame.

وأدار وجهاً غاضباً

عني وراح وما نَبَس

And he turned an angry face

away from me and left without a word.

يا قلبُ قد صحَّ الرجاء

يا قلبُ قد صحَّ الرجاء

وهان نَيل المُلتَمَس

وهان نَيل المُلتَمَس

O heart, hope has proved well-founded,

and what is sought is easy to attain.

ان السحاب ليُرتجى

ان السحاب ليُرتجى

منهُ النوال متى عبَس

منهُ النوال متى عبَس

Indeed, the cloud is surely looked to

for bounty whenever it frowns.
