And along the sides, a thousand shops shone
Along the sides a thousand stalls gleamed
With precious wares that leave minds bewildered.
With treasures that leave minds perplexed
فيهاin them الجواهرُthe jewels كالنجومlike the stars وجامُهاand their glass
فيها الجواهرُ كالنجوم وجامُها
فلَكٌa celestial sphere يزيغdazzles بهاؤُهُits splendor الابصاراthe eyes
فلَكٌ يزيغ بهاؤُهُ الابصارا
Within them are jewels like stars, and their glass
In them gems shine like stars, and their cups
Is a firmament whose splendor dazzles the eyes.
Are spheres whose splendor dazzles sights
فيهاin them لاصنافfor kinds of النسيجwoven cloth زخارفٌdecorative patterns
فيها لاصناف النسيج زخارفٌ
تسبيcaptivate النساءwomen وتسلبand steal away الديناراthe dinar
تسبي النساء وتسلب الدينارا
Within them, fabrics of every kind bear patterns
In them are types of fabrics with ornamentation
That captivate women and steal away the dinar.
That captivate women and seize dinars
خزٌّsilk-and-wool cloth وديباجٌand brocade دِمقسٌwhite silk اطلسٌsatin
خزٌّ وديباجٌ دِمقسٌ اطلسٌ
حَبرٌstriped cloth كماlike نسجthe weaving العناكبof spiders طاراtook flight
حَبرٌ كما نسج العناكب طارا
Silk-and-wool cloth and brocade, white silk, satin,
Satin and brocade, Dimqi fabric, satin
Striped cloth, taking flight like spiders’ webs.
Silk like what spiders wove high up
مابينranging between نقشdesigns موشَّعٍvariegated ومطرَّزٍand embroidered
مابين نقش موشَّعٍ ومطرَّزٍ
ومنمنمٍand finely ornamented ومدبَّجٍand richly decorated أزراراbuttons
ومنمنمٍ ومدبَّجٍ أزرارا
From variegated designs and embroidery
Between engraved designs and embroidered ones
To fine ornament and richly decorated buttons.
And patterned and gilded buttons
فهيso they are الحقولُthe fields حباbestowed لربيعfor spring مهادهاtheir beds
فهي الحقولُ حبا لربيع مهادها
حللاًrobes زهتgleamed فتنوَّعتthen became varied إزهاراas blossoms
حللاً زهت فتنوَّعت إزهارا
So they are fields, their beds endowed for spring
They are fields, loving a spring whose meadows
With gleaming robes, becoming blossoms of many kinds.
Wore dresses that gleamed, varied flowers
فيهاin them لانواعfor kinds of الاثاثfurnishings بدائعٌmarvels
فيها لانواع الاثاث بدائعٌ
تستوقفarrest الانظارthe gazes والافكاراand the thoughts
تستوقف الانظار والافكارا
Within them are marvels of every kind of furnishing
In them are types of furniture, marvels
That arrest both eyes and thoughts.
That stop eyes and thoughts
حيثwherever التفتَّyou turn تجدyou find عجيباًwondrous شائقاًenticing
حيث التفتَّ تجد عجيباً شائقاً
حَسَناًbeautiful انيقاًelegant غالياًprecious مقداراin value
حَسَناً انيقاً غالياً مقدارا
Wherever you turn, you find something wondrous and enticing,
Wherever you turn you find strange, intriguing
Beautiful, elegant, and of great value.
