1. لما تجلَّى فوق كرسي خدّها

    خال ككسرى حلَّ في الأيوان

    When upon the throne of her cheek there appeared

    A beauty mark, like Khosrow settled in the palace hall,

  2. وبَدت شقائقهُ هتفتُ تأوُّهاً

    واحسرة الدنيا على النعمان

    And its anemones appeared, I cried out with a groan:

    “Oh, the world's sorrow for al-Nu‘man!”
