We have remained among grazing beasts;
We remained among grazing beasts
They roam, yet never turn to reason.
Wandering, with no inclination towards reason
فَإِنso if حَدَثَتyou speak عَنof سَمعِكَyour hearing وَبقلand greens
فَأَنتَthen you are لَدَيهِمto them رَجلa man نَبيلnoble
So if you speak of your hearing and greens,
So if you speak of what you've heard and seen
Then, to them, you are a noble man.
To them you're a noble man
وَإِنand if حَدَثتyou speak عَنof اِبوابِdoors عِلمknowledge
فَأَنتَthen you are لَدَيهِمto them فَدمa dullard ثَقيلtiresome
And if you speak of the doors of knowledge,
And if you speak of the gates of knowledge
Then, to them, you are a tiresome dullard.
To them you're an insufferable bore
