أَيُّها اللائِمي عَلى نكد الدَه
رِcompletion of 'time' لِكُلِّfor everyone منof البَلاءِaffliction نَصيبُa share
رِ لِكُلِّ من البَلاءِ نَصيبُ
O you who blame me for the hardships of time,
O you who blame the troubles of fate
Everyone has a share of affliction.
Each one has a share of tribulation
قَدmay يُلامُbe blamed البَريءُthe innocent منfrom غَيرother than ذَنبa fault
قَد يُلامُ البَريءُ من غَير ذَنب
وَتغطىand are concealed منof المَسيءِthe wrongdoer الذُنوبُthe sins
وَتغطى من المَسيءِ الذُنوبُ
The innocent may be blamed without any fault,
The innocent may be blamed without fault
While the wrongdoer's sins are concealed.
While the sins of the guilty are covered
وَيَحولُand change الأَحوالُcircumstances بِالمَرءِfor a man وَالدَهرand time
وَيَحولُ الأَحوالُ بِالمَرءِ وَالدَهر
لَهُit has فيin صُروفِهِits vicissitudes تَقليبُreversal
لَهُ في صُروفِهِ تَقليبُ
And circumstances change for a man, and time
Fate and time change a man's condition
Has reversals amid its vicissitudes.
