لا تَنطُقَن بِمَقالَة في مَجلِس

لا تَنطُقَن بِمَقالَة في مَجلِس

تَخشى عَواقِبُها وَكُن ذا مصدق

تَخشى عَواقِبُها وَكُن ذا مصدق

In a gathering, never utter a statement

Do not speak a word in an assembly

whose consequences you fear; and be truthful.

You fear its consequences, be true to your word

وَاِحفَظ لِسانَكَ أَن تَقولَ فَتَبتَلى

وَاِحفَظ لِسانَكَ أَن تَقولَ فَتَبتَلى

إِن البَلاءَ موكل بِالمَنطِق

إِن البَلاءَ موكل بِالمَنطِق

And guard your tongue lest you speak and be afflicted;

And guard your tongue lest you say and regret

indeed, affliction is bound to speech.
