1. قبل أن نهبط من

    جنّتِنا في الأزليّة

    Before we descended from

    our paradise in beginningless eternity,

  2. حين كنّا ذرّة في

    جانب اللَه سنيّه

    when we were an atom at

    God's side, radiant,

  3. جوهرتنا يدهُ العل

    يا بنور القدسيّه

    His exalted hand made us a jewel

    with the light of holiness,

  4. فاقتسمناها حياةً

    في السماوات هنيّه

    so we shared it as a life

    of bliss in the heavens.

  5. وأراد اللَهُ أن نل

    بسَ ثوب الآدميّه

    And God willed that we

    wear the garment of humanity.

  6. فافترقنا رغم ما يج

    معنا في العاطفيّه

    So we parted, despite what

    unites us in feeling.

  7. والتقينا بعد آبادٍ

    بسرّ الجاذبيّه

    And we met after ages,

    through the mystery of attraction.

  8. التقينا فانتشينا

    برحيق الأبديّه

    We met, and grew intoxicated

    with the nectar of endless eternity.

  9. ونهَبنا العمر أحلام

    ليالٍ نابغيّه

    And we plundered life for dreams

    of nights like al-Nabigha's.

  10. ثم وليّت فماتت أغ

    نياتي في بديّه

    Then you turned away, and my songs died

    at their outset [uncertain reading].

  11. ودجا عمري وهانت

    بهجةُ الدنيا عليّه

    And my life grew dark; of little worth

    was the world's delight to me.

  12. وغداً يا توأم الروح

    تعودين إليّه

    And tomorrow, O twin of my soul,

    you will return to me.

  13. قصّةٌ سلسلها اللَهُ

    وعاشتها البريّه

    A story God strung together

    and creation lived out:

  14. الألوهيّة فيها

    مثّلتها البشريّه

    divinity within it

    was embodied by humanity.
