    at morning, sunset, and nightfall.

  2. أنتَ يا متحف الدمامة والقب

    حِ تنزّهتَ عن صفات البهاء

You, museum of hideousness and ugliness,

are free of every attribute of beauty.

    لعنةً في نواظر الأحياء

With premeditated intent, my Lord fashioned you

as a curse in the eyes of the living.

    نِ وقلباً مجمّعا من نقاءِ

and see me as a soul fragrant with beauty,

    but tinsel and paint.

has the eyes of the wise.

Enough for me that I live with a face

unchanging in good fortune and bad.

spread the chameleon's creed across the earth:

the creed of those who trespass on everyone's honor,

and lead the field in the race of hypocrisy.

    ميلاً يتيهُ بالعوراءِ

How many an ugly man, through his radiant virtues, has outstripped

a handsome man who struts in his disgrace!
