by Fate so that it may shatter them.

والقاهرand the Conqueror الجبارthe Almighty يعطىgives
والقاهر الجبار يعطى
ماwhat يشاءHe wills لمنto whom يشاءHe wills
ما يشاء لمن يشاء
And the Conqueror, the Almighty, gives
The Almighty Omnipotent gives
what He wills to whom He wills.

مرّتpassed بناby us ذكراكthe memory of you فانبعثand so arose

الدفين من البكاء
The memory of you passed by us, and there arose

the weeping buried within.
