تقولُshe says ابنتيmy daughter : إنَّindeed انطلاقكَyour setting out واحداًalone
تقولُ ابنتي : إنَّ انطلاقكَ واحداً
إلىinto الرَّوعِbattle ، يوماًone day تاركيleaving me لاno أبالياfather for me
إلى الرَّوعِ ، يوماً تاركي لا أباليا
My daughter says, “Your setting out alone
My daughter says: Your solitary departure
into battle one day will leave me fatherless.”
into the unknown, one day leaving me indifferent -
دَعِيناleave us be مِنَfree of الإِشفاقِanxious concern ، أوor قَدِّميbring لَناto us
دَعِينا مِنَ الإِشفاقِ ، أو قَدِّمي لَنا
منَagainst الحدثانِmisfortunes والمنيَّةِand death راقياa reciter of protective charms
منَ الحدثانِ والمنيَّةِ راقيا
Spare us your anxious concern, or bring us
Spare us your pity, or offer us
a charm-reciter against misfortunes and death.
from your adventures and death something sublime.
ستتلفُwill perish نفسيmy life ، أوor سأجمعُI shall gather هجمةًa large camel herd
ستتلفُ نفسي ، أو سأجمعُ هجمةً
ترىyou see ساقييهاits two waterers بالمانِboth swollen التَّراقياthe collarbones
ترى ساقييها بالمانِ التَّراقيا
My life will perish, or I shall gather a great camel herd
My soul may wither, or I will unleash a raid
whose two waterers you see with swollen collarbones.
whose feet you will see climbing the sublime ladder.
