With the death of Muhammad, Commander of the Faithful,
With the death of the Commander of the Faithful Muhammad
With the death of the Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad,
Death grew proud, and the graves strutted proudly over him.
Death was adorned and the graves were disturbed for him
Death swelled with pride, and the graves strutted over him.
رأيتI saw المناياthe fates يفتَخِرنَthey boast بموتهof his death
كأنّas though المناياthe fates تبتغيseek منsomeone تُفاخِرvie with in pride
I saw the fates boasting of his death,
I saw death boasting of his death
I saw the Fates boasting of his demise,
As though the fates sought someone to vie with in pride.
As if death was seeking someone to boast about
As if the Fates were seeking a rival to glory against.

So, had the days wept for a dead man, they would have wept for him—
If the days cried for a deceased, they would cry for him
For if the Days were to weep for a dead man, they would weep for him—
Their bygone days and those remaining yet to come.
Their past events and pressing calamities
Their bygone pasts and those remaining yet to come.
وماand not الناسُthe people إلاexcept للفناءto extinction مصيرهُمtheir fate
لكلّfor every امرىءٍman منfrom يومهhis day ماwhat يحاذِرُhe dreads
And people's fate is nothing but extinction;
And people are only destined for death
And people are nothing but destined for annihilation,
For every man, his day holds what he dreads.
Every person has what he fears from his day
For every man, from his day, comes that which he dreads.
