مِمّا أَلاقي مِن حَسانِ النِساء
Illness has overpowered me; I have no cure
The disease has conquered me, and I have no cure,
For what I suffer from beautiful women.
From what I encounter among beautiful women.

A sound heart, with which I once wielded might,
A sound heart I once possessed, with which I used to strike,
Now suffers, because of Salma, from an incurable disease.
Has become, through Salma, struck by an incurable illness.

Her breath is musk, and in her glance
Her breaths are musk, and within her glance
Is magic; I have no remedy but her.
Lies magic, and I have no remedy but her.

She made me a promise—so be true to it!
She made me a promise—so fulfill it now!
Can wine be good except with water?
For is the wine ever fit to drink without water?

Many a hardship has brought me harm;
How many a distress has touched me with its harm,
Amid it I called upon Amr ibn al-Ala.
During which I called out to Amr ibn al-Ala.
