Your servant, O Siddiq of the noblest state,

trusts in the fulfillment of a promise from Your Excellency.

And far be it from you, O chief of chiefs, to turn him away

with anything but what he hopes for—your promise is true.

And from Your Highness's two palms overflowed upon humankind

seas of bounty, brimming and gushing.

So they revived, with sweet water, in every place,

souls that had been stricken with lifelessness.

And now your praises are sung by everyone whose

steed of wit leads the field in praising you.

So receive my praise with acceptance, for I am

a trustworthy, sincere servant; I do not dissemble.

And order a disbursement to me for seven months

and two days, over which my hair's partings have turned gray.

For throughout them I never slackened for an hour,

amid hardship after ease, in doing what was fitting.

And I grew only more eager for verses of praise,

which my tongue utters in private and in public.

And may you live in lasting serenity and preeminence,

with good fortune your companion therein for all time.
