بَديعwondrous الثَناpraise يُهدَىis offered إِلىto الصَدرthe chief minister شاهينِShahin
بَديع الثَنا يُهدَى إِلى الصَدر شاهينِ
بِنظمٍin verse تَحلَّىbecame adorned مِنهُfrom it جَيدُthe neck الدواوينِthe poetry collections
بِنظمٍ تَحلَّى مِنهُ جَيدُ الدواوينِ
Wondrous praise is offered to the chief minister Shahin,
The peerless melody offered to the bosom of a hawk
In verse that has adorned the neck of the poetry collections.
In verse adorned from which the scrolls of records gleam
وَتَبدوand appear مِنfrom العَلياexalted glory بمصرin Egypt ثُغورُهاits lips
وَتَبدو مِن العَليا بمصر ثُغورُها
لهto him باسماتsmiling فيat جميعall الأحايينtimes
له باسمات في جميع الأحايين
And in Egypt, exalted glory’s lips appear,
And from on high its frontiers upon Egypt appear
Smiling upon him at all times.
For it smiles from all the lands throughout time
وأجنادهand his troops شمheld high الأنوفthe noses بحزمهthrough his resolve
وأجناده شم الأنوف بحزمه
تُفَرّقscatter فيin الهَيجاbattle جُموعhosts السَلاطينthe sultans
تُفَرّق في الهَيجا جُموع السَلاطين
And his troops, their noses held high through his resolve,
And its armies the noses perceive in their resolution
Scatter the sultans’ hosts in battle.
To scatter amidst the tumult the multitudes of rulers
