بَدا العام بِالبُشرى لِخَير إِمامِ

بَدا العام بِالبُشرى لِخَير إِمامِ

مَزاياه لا تُحصى بِكُل إِمامِ

مَزاياه لا تُحصى بِكُل إِمامِ

The year dawned with glad tidings for the best of leaders.

The year began with good tidings for the virtuous imam

His virtues cannot be counted in any record.

His merits are countless for every imam

فَطالعه فيهِ سَعيدٌ وَمصرُه

فَطالعه فيهِ سَعيدٌ وَمصرُه

لَها مِنهُ إِقبالٌ وَنيل مَرام

لَها مِنهُ إِقبالٌ وَنيل مَرام

So his rising star is auspicious in it, and his Egypt

Its horoscope in it is fortunate and its Egypt

Has through him prosperity and the fulfillment of her desire.

Is inclined towards him and attains its purpose

وَشكرُ بَنيها لَم يَزَل في زِيادة

وَشكرُ بَنيها لَم يَزَل في زِيادة

لآلائه في رحلة وَمَقام

لآلائه في رحلة وَمَقام

And her sons' gratitude keeps increasing

And its children's gratitude has not ceased to increase

For his favors, in travel and in residence.

For his benevolence whether traveling or residing

وَللملتجي فيها لعلياه ما يَشا

وَللملتجي فيها لعلياه ما يَشا

وَما شاءَ مِن أَمنٍ وَحفظ ذمام

وَما شاءَ مِن أَمنٍ وَحفظ ذمام

And whoever seeks refuge there with His Highness has what he wishes,

And the one taking refuge in it, its supremacy allows him what he wants

And whatever he wishes of security and the keeping of pledges.

And what he desired of security and keeping the pact

وَدَولته الغَراء فيها تَأسست

وَدَولته الغَراء فيها تَأسست

عَلى العَدل وَاِزدانَت بِحُسن نِظام

عَلى العَدل وَاِزدانَت بِحُسن نِظام

And his illustrious state was founded there

And its glorious state in it was established

On justice, and was adorned with good order.

On justice and adorned with excellent system

وَأَيدها مِنهُ بِحَزم وَهمة

وَأَيدها مِنهُ بِحَزم وَهمة

وَعَزم كميّ في المَواقف سامي

وَعَزم كميّ في المَواقف سامي

And he strengthened it with his own firmness and zeal,

And he supported it with resolve and enthusiasm

And an armored warrior's resolve, lofty in battle,

And total determination in the sublime attitudes

وَبَأس شَديد في النِضال وَصَولة

وَبَأس شَديد في النِضال وَصَولة

عَلى كُل جَبار لَديد خصام

عَلى كُل جَبار لَديد خصام

And fierce might in combat, and an onslaught

And severe valor in struggle and assault

Against every tyrant obstinate in strife;

Against every stubborn and hostile tyrant

وَجَيش حَليفٍ للثَبات مجربٍ

وَجَيش حَليفٍ للثَبات مجربٍ

إِذا ما سَطا أَودى بِكُلِّ همام

إِذا ما سَطا أَودى بِكُلِّ همام

And a battle-tested army, allied with steadfastness,

And an allied army, steadfast and tested

Which, when it strikes, brings death to every champion;

If it deploys it destroys every protector

وَبيض وَسُمر كَالقَضا وَمَدافع

وَبيض وَسُمر كَالقَضا وَمَدافع

تُبيد الأَعادي مِن بَعيد مَرامي

تُبيد الأَعادي مِن بَعيد مَرامي

And white swords and tawny spears, like fate, and cannons

White and brown like fate and cannons

That annihilate enemies at long range;

That annihilate enemies from afar when taking aim

وَغَيث نَوالٍ مِن سَماء سَماحةٍ

وَغَيث نَوالٍ مِن سَماء سَماحةٍ

عَلى أَرض راحات البرية هامي

عَلى أَرض راحات البرية هامي

And a rain of bounty from a sky of generosity,

And downpour of bounty from a generous sky

Pouring down upon the earth of humankind's palms.

Upon the lands where desert gazelles roam

فلا زالَ في أَوطانه طُولَ دَهرِه

فلا زالَ في أَوطانه طُولَ دَهرِه

عَن الملك وَالدين القَويم يحامي

عَن الملك وَالدين القَويم يحامي

So may he never cease, in his lands, throughout his life,

So it never ceased throughout its lands for its entire time

Defending the realm and the upright faith.

To defend the righteous religion and kingdom

وَدام لَنا مَع شبله ما تَعاقبت

وَدام لَنا مَع شبله ما تَعاقبت

سُنونَ وَما لاحَت بدورُ تَمام

سُنونَ وَما لاحَت بدورُ تَمام

And may he endure for us with his lion cub through the succession

And may it last for us along with its cub

Of years, and as long as full moons shine.

As long as years succeeded and cycles reached completeness

وَما قالَ في ذا الحَول مَجدي مؤرِّخاً

وَما قالَ في ذا الحَول مَجدي مؤرِّخاً

لِنصر الخديوي هلّ أَيمنُ عام

لِنصر الخديوي هلّ أَيمنُ عام

And what Majdi said this year, recording its date, was:

And what Majdi the chronicler said this year

For the Khedive's victory, the most auspicious year has dawned.

Of the Khedive's victory, is it not a blessed year?
