ظَلّ التَهاني بِرَوض العَدل مَمدودُ

ظَلّ التَهاني بِرَوض العَدل مَمدودُ

وَطالع الدَولة الغَراء مَسعودُ

وَطالع الدَولة الغَراء مَسعودُ

The shade of congratulations stretches through the garden of justice,

The festivities' shadow stretched in the garden of justice

and the radiant state's rising star is fortunate.

And the auspicious state's star rose fortunate

وَالدَهر لانَ لَنا قاسيه وَانشرحت

وَالدَهر لانَ لَنا قاسيه وَانشرحت

صُدورُنا وَعَلَينا خيّم الجُود

صُدورُنا وَعَلَينا خيّم الجُود

And time's harshness has softened toward us, and ease has come to

Though fate wasn't gentle with us, our chests expanded

our breasts; generosity has spread its canopy over us.

And generosity's cloud shaded us

وَالخَصب عَما قَليل بِالجِبال يَرى

وَالخَصب عَما قَليل بِالجِبال يَرى

كَأَنَّهُ مِن قَديم العَهد مَوجود

كَأَنَّهُ مِن قَديم العَهد مَوجود

And soon fertility will be seen in the mountains,

The fertile land slightly appears on the mountains

as though it had been there since ancient times.

As if it existed since ancient times

وَالمال يَزداد حَتّى لا يقال لَهُ

وَالمال يَزداد حَتّى لا يقال لَهُ

مِن كثرة إِن هَذا المال مَعدود

مِن كثرة إِن هَذا المال مَعدود

And wealth increases until none can say of it,

And money increases until it can't be said

so abundant is it, 'This wealth can be counted.'

That this money is limited

وَفي خَزائن مصر لا يَكون لَهُ

وَفي خَزائن مصر لا يَكون لَهُ

مِنها نَفاد وَباب العُسر مَسدود

مِنها نَفاد وَباب العُسر مَسدود

And the wealth in Egypt's treasuries shall never

In Egypt's treasuries, it won't run out

be depleted; the door of hardship is barred.

And the door of hardship is shut

حَيث الأَمين عَلَيها حافظ مَعَهُ

حَيث الأَمين عَلَيها حافظ مَعَهُ

في لَيلة القَدر أَصل الصدق مَولود

في لَيلة القَدر أَصل الصدق مَولود

For their trusted guardian is Hafiz, with whom

Where the trustee protects it, with him

the root of truth was born on the Night of Decree.

The origin of honesty was born on Laylat Al Qadr

وَالحَزم مَعْهُ ربا في مَهده وَعَلى

وَالحَزم مَعْهُ ربا في مَهده وَعَلى

دِيوانه علَمُ الإِقبال مَعقود

دِيوانه علَمُ الإِقبال مَعقود

And resolve grew with him in his cradle, and above

Wisdom is his companion since the cradle and over

his bureau the banner of good fortune is raised.

His office the flag of prosperity is raised

وَأحنفٌ دُونه في الحلم وَهوَ بِما

وَأحنفٌ دُونه في الحلم وَهوَ بِما

لَهُ مِن العَزم في الإِقدام داود

لَهُ مِن العَزم في الإِقدام داود

And Ahnaf falls below him in forbearance; through

He is rightly-guided in wisdom and with his determination

the resolve he has in daring deeds, he is Dawud.

In daring, he is like Dawood

وَكرُّ عَمروٍ عَلى الأَعداء يَعدله

وَكرُّ عَمروٍ عَلى الأَعداء يَعدله

كرّ الأَمير إِذا ما فرّت الصيد

كرّ الأَمير إِذا ما فرّت الصيد

And Amr's charge against the enemy is matched by

The prince's attack on enemies equals

the prince's charge, when noble champions flee.

The prince's attack when the hunt flees

وَما ذَكاء إِياس مِن ذَكاه سِوى

وَما ذَكاء إِياس مِن ذَكاه سِوى

مَعشار عَشر وَما في ذاكَ تَفنيد

مَعشار عَشر وَما في ذاكَ تَفنيد

And Iyas's intelligence, compared with his, is but

Eiyas' intelligence only differs

a tenth of a tenth; there is no refuting that.

From his intelligence by one-tenth, not less

يا أَيُّها الآمر الناهي بِكَ اِفتَخرت

يا أَيُّها الآمر الناهي بِكَ اِفتَخرت

مَناصبٌ بِكَ مِنها أَورقَ العُود

مَناصبٌ بِكَ مِنها أَورقَ العُود

O you who command and forbid, you have brought pride to

Oh you, the commander and forbider, through you

high offices; through you their bough has put forth leaves.

Ranks flourished, sprouting branches

وَقَد تَباهى بِتَسهيل سَمحت بِهِ

وَقَد تَباهى بِتَسهيل سَمحت بِهِ

دِيوان ماليةٍ أَعياه تَعقيد

دِيوان ماليةٍ أَعياه تَعقيد

And it has taken pride in the simplification you granted—

And the finance ministry you eased boasted of

the finance bureau that complexity had exhausted.

The complexity you solved

وَفازَ مَن رأي علياك السَديد بِما

وَفازَ مَن رأي علياك السَديد بِما

يَكون فيهِ لِنَفس المُلك تَأييد

يَكون فيهِ لِنَفس المُلك تَأييد

And through Your Highness's sound judgment it has gained what

Whoever saw your judicious opinion won

gives support to sovereignty itself.

What supports the kingdom itself

وَطالَما كانَ قَبل الآن يَأمل أَن

وَطالَما كانَ قَبل الآن يَأمل أَن

تُعطى كَما تَشتَهي مِنهُ المَقاليد

تُعطى كَما تَشتَهي مِنهُ المَقاليد

And long before now it had hoped that

For long before, he hoped you would grant

you would be given its keys, just as you desire.

As coveted from you, the reins

فَاِحكُم بِما شئت في كُل الأُمور فَما

فَاِحكُم بِما شئت في كُل الأُمور فَما

حُكم بِهِ تَمنَحُ الإِنصافَ مَردود

حُكم بِهِ تَمنَحُ الإِنصافَ مَردود

So judge as you wish in all affairs, for no

So judge however you wish in all matters, for what

ruling by which you grant justice is rejected.

You judge, justice won't reject

وَاقبل مَدائح مَملوكٍ جَوائزه

وَاقبل مَدائح مَملوكٍ جَوائزه

رضاك وَهوَ دواماً منكَ مَعهود

رضاك وَهوَ دواماً منكَ مَعهود

And accept the praises of a bondsman whose rewards are

And accept the praises of a slave whose rewards are

your approval, which you are ever known to bestow.

Your satisfaction, as he's accustomed from you

وَاِسمَح لَهُ بذمام مِنكَ فَهوَ لَهُ

وَاِسمَح لَهُ بذمام مِنكَ فَهوَ لَهُ

دُونَ المَواهب وَالأَموال مَقصود

دُونَ المَواهب وَالأَموال مَقصود

And grant him a pledge of your protection, for that is his

Permit him the bridle from you, for it's his

aim, rather than gifts and money.

Aim beyond gifts and money

وَللرياسة عش في مصر مُبتهجاً

وَللرياسة عش في مصر مُبتهجاً

بِها فَأَنتَ بما تَرجوه مَوعود

بِها فَأَنتَ بما تَرجوه مَوعود

And live to lead in Egypt, rejoicing

And live happily ruling Egypt

in it, for you are promised what you hope for.

For what you wish is promised you

وَمَع شَقيقك وَالأَنجال زِد شَرَفاً

وَمَع شَقيقك وَالأَنجال زِد شَرَفاً

فَأَنتُمُ لِلمَعالي في الوَرى جيد

فَأَنتُمُ لِلمَعالي في الوَرى جيد

And with your brother and sons, grow in honor,

With your brother and sons gain more honor

for among mankind you are the neck that bears lofty honors.

For you are the best of creations in the world

وَالمَجد بِالشُكر لِلرحمَن مَدّ يداً

وَالمَجد بِالشُكر لِلرحمَن مَدّ يداً

عَلى نَعيم عَلَيهِ المَرء مَحسود

عَلى نَعيم عَلَيهِ المَرء مَحسود

And glory, in thanks to the All-Merciful, has stretched out a hand

And thanking the Merciful, extend glory

over bliss for which a person is envied.

For blessings envied by men

وَفي اِرتِقاك العلا قالت مُؤرخةً

وَفي اِرتِقاك العلا قالت مُؤرخةً

And at your ascent to the heights, they spoke a chronogram:

Recording history, it said "Muhammad Hafiz

'Muhammad Hafiz, guardian of the bureau, is praised.'
