وَلَأَنتand indeed you لِلمَجدfor glory المؤثَّلِfirmly established ضامنُa guarantor
The honor of offices resides in your noble person.
The honor of positions lies latent in you,
And you indeed guarantee firmly established glory.
And you are the guarantor of decorated glory.

And when the army came beneath the banner,
And when the army came under attack,
We said to it: good tidings to you—you are safe.
We said to it, "Rejoice, for you are safe."

O gallant one, worth any ransom—eminence
O noble one, redeemed for supremacy,
And resolve have their signs and proofs in you.
In whom are signs and evidence of wisdom.

So when you charge against your foes, they are struck
So when you charge the foes, there shall befall them
By what is to come from your polished, keen-edged sword.
From your honed wrath what is sure to happen.

And the lion shows affection when he sees you,
The lion shows that he fears you,
Out of his fear, though his heart harbors grudges.
From his own terror, though rage boils within.

And through your sound judgment in warfare and other matters,
And by your good counsel in war and otherwise,
Cities in the lands were conquered for Egypt.
The cities of many lands were opened to Egypt.

And Crete took pride in the noblest birth,
And Kureid took pride in your most noble birth,
Exalted and noble, accompanied by good fortune.
A pure and noble one, a kin to the Sa’uds.

And Egypt has abundant good fortune through service
And Egypt has abundant fortune in serving you,
From you, through which dense darkness was illumined.
By which you lit up the darkness of the gloomy.

And for her army, through you, O commander, in battle,
And for its troops, O Prince, at times of distress,
There is a manifest victory scarcely to be matched.
Through you a clear opening, rarely matched.

From every evil followed by loss.
From every evil pursued by the betrayer.

And whoever you have sheltered has protection from calamities,
And for those you saved from disasters, protection
As long as a shadow inclines or a still thing stirs.
Whether a shadow tilted or stillness moved.

And whoever readies himself for combat faces death
And for those who stripped for battle, a death
That comes while the dawn of Mashrafi swords is overcast.
That comes while Mashrafiyya lies silent.

And how often, for the generous, noble steeds in battle,
And how often have steeds strained in generosity,
The field's left and right flanks proved too narrow!
When the sword-arms of plain and mountain narrowed!

And mankind's praise of you is unanimous
And praise of you from the wilderness is one,
Always, while for most mortals it is divided.
While in all the lands it is varied.

And how many a renegade has been struck by the meteor of your might,
And how often a fiery meteor has been cast
Having forsaken his faith, treacherous in the pledges he makes.
At a renouncing apostate from his faith!

And how many an armored warrior, valiant and full of prowess,
And how often a stalwart, effective champion
Has fled, only to be overtaken by fatal doom.
Turned his back, and death the sly overtook him!

And how many a captive, from chains of humiliation,
And how many a prisoner from humiliating fetters
You have freed, with hostages following him afterward.
You freed, later followed by others.

وَنسيتَand you forgot ماwhat فَعَلواthey did وِتلكand those محاسنvirtues
And you pardoned your foes after victory,
And you forgave, after victory, the enemies,
And forgot what they had done—these are virtues.
Forgetting what they had done - and those are virtues.

So accept this peerless creation of thought, generously bestowed
So accept the orphan of a thought that has come to you
On you in praise by the treasuries of the heart.
From the conscience, of praise, treasures.

And reward your servant for his praise by accepting it;
And reward your eulogist for his eulogy,
For that is sufficient, and is the reward at hand.
For that is enough, and the present reward.

And in the hero's rank of lieutenant-general—and after it
And after the rank of Field Marshal,
Another rank—may you rejoice as long as the distant draws near.
Another for which congratulations will be timely.
