تبسمت العَليا لِمَولد عَباسِ

وَهَز نَسيمُ الأُنس أَعطافَ أَغراسِ

The heights smiled at the birth of Abbas,

The High smiled at Abbas's birth

and the breeze of joy stirred the boughs of saplings.

And the breeze of intimacy shook the branches of trees

وَأَشرَق بَدر الملك في مَصر راقِياً

وَأَشرَق بَدر الملك في مَصر راقِياً

مَراقي المَعالي في صَفاء وَإِيناس

مَراقي المَعالي في صَفاء وَإِيناس

And the full moon of kingship shone in Egypt, ascending

The moon of the kingdom shone radiantly in Egypt

the stairways of eminence in serenity and delight.

With the heights of glory in serenity and intimacy

وَفي الطالع المَسعود قَد لاحَ فَاِزدَرى

وَفي الطالع المَسعود قَد لاحَ فَاِزدَرى

بِأَنوار مِشكاةٍ أَضاءَت كَنِبراس

بِأَنوار مِشكاةٍ أَضاءَت كَنِبراس

And in the auspicious ascendant he appeared, then scoffed

In the auspicious ascendant, he appeared and outshone

at the lights of a niche that shone like a lamp.

With the lights of a lantern that illuminated like a torch

وَفي رَوض ثَغر اِسكندرية حرَّكت

شَمائلُه لَما بَدا كُلَّ مياس

شَمائلُه لَما بَدا كُلَّ مياس

And in the garden of Alexandria's port were stirred

In the garden of Alexandria his attributes moved

by his graces, when he appeared, all swaying trees.

When he appeared, stirring all tenderness

فَزادَ وَليّ العَهد حَولاً وَقوة

فَزادَ وَليّ العَهد حَولاً وَقوة

به وهو في عَهد المَهابة وَالباس

به وهو في عَهد المَهابة وَالباس

So the crown prince gained might and strength

The crown prince increased in might and strength through him

through him, while in an age of majesty and valor.

While in the era of awe and force

وَقالَت بَشيرات التهاني لجده

حَفيدك تاج للملوك عَلى الراس

فَعش في هنا عَيش لأَسعد دَولة

فَعش في هنا عَيش لأَسعد دَولة

دعائمها في الأَرض كَالعلَم الراسي

دعائمها في الأَرض كَالعلَم الراسي

So live in life's bliss, for the most fortunate dynasty,

So live happily here, in the most fortunate state

whose pillars in the earth are like a firmly rooted mountain.

Its pillars in the land like a firmly rooted flag

فَقَد جاءَ نَصر اللَه وَالفَتح وَاِزدَهَت

فَقَد جاءَ نَصر اللَه وَالفَتح وَاِزدَهَت

بِطَلعة هذا الشبل بَهجة مِقياس

بِطَلعة هذا الشبل بَهجة مِقياس

For God's help and victory have come, and there shone

For God's victory and opening have come

at this lion cub's appearance, the splendor of the Nilometer.

And this cub's rise brought joyful delight

وَفي نَشر أَعلام التناسل شاهدٌ

وَفي نَشر أَعلام التناسل شاهدٌ

عَلى صدق مَجدي في التَهاني بِأَعراس

عَلى صدق مَجدي في التَهاني بِأَعراس

And in the unfurling of the banners of procreation lies testimony

In the spreading of the flags of succession, a witness

to Majdi's truthfulness in his congratulations on weddings.

Of the truth of my congratulations for the wedding

وَفي ذَلِكَ المِيلاد أَقوى دَلالة

وَفي ذَلِكَ المِيلاد أَقوى دَلالة

عَلى أَن هذا العام يُمنٌ عَلى الناس

عَلى أَن هذا العام يُمنٌ عَلى الناس

And in that birth lies the strongest indication

In that birth, the strongest indication

that this year brings good fortune to the people.

That this year is blessed for the people

وَكَيفَ وَماء النيل يَوم ولاده

وَكَيفَ وَماء النيل يَوم ولاده

تَجاوز حداً لا يقاس بِمقياس

تَجاوز حداً لا يقاس بِمقياس

And how could it be otherwise, when the Nile's waters on the day of his birth

How not, when the Nile's water on his birthday

exceeded a limit that no gauge could measure?

Exceeded a limit not measurable by any gauge

وَقَد قُلت فيهِ وَهوَ عيد مؤرخاً

وَقَد قُلت فيهِ وَهوَ عيد مؤرخاً

سَعى نَصر تَوفيق بِمَولد عَباس

سَعى نَصر تَوفيق بِمَولد عَباس

And I said of it, a festive day, composing a chronogram:

I said about it as a dated feast

Tawfiq's triumph advanced with the birth of Abbas.
