أَضاءَت بُدورُ البشر وَاِنشَرَح البالُ

أَضاءَت بُدورُ البشر وَاِنشَرَح البالُ

وَزالَ عَن الأَلباب بِالعَدل بلبالُ

وَزالَ عَن الأَلباب بِالعَدل بلبالُ

The full moons of gladness shone, and the mind found ease.

The stars of humankind shone bright, and minds found peace,

And through justice, turmoil departed from minds.

Gloom lifted from hearts with justice, turmoil ceased.

وَلاحَت عَلى وَجه الأَقاليم بَهجةٌ

وَلاحَت عَلى وَجه الأَقاليم بَهجةٌ

لَها مَظهَرٌ يَنمو بِهِ الخَصب وَالمال

لَها مَظهَرٌ يَنمو بِهِ الخَصب وَالمال

And joy appeared upon the face of the provinces,

Joy dawned on the face of every land,

With a splendor through which fertility and wealth grow.

With it grew prosperity and wealth at hand.

وَلِم لا وَإِبراهيم بِالفَضل قَد غَدا

وَلِم لا وَإِبراهيم بِالفَضل قَد غَدا

رَئيساً لَها في مصر وَاِنتَظَم الحال

رَئيساً لَها في مصر وَاِنتَظَم الحال

And why not, when Ibrahim, through merit, has become

Why not, when Ibrahim with merit rose

Their chief in Egypt, and affairs have fallen into order?

To steer affairs in Egypt, order flows.

وَنالَت بِهِ ثاني المَراتب عزةً

وَنالَت بِهِ ثاني المَراتب عزةً

لشانئه مِنها مَدى الدَهر إِذلال

لشانئه مِنها مَدى الدَهر إِذلال

And through him they attained the second rank in honor,

With him it gained the second highest rank,

An honor that brings humiliation to whoever hates him, for all time.

Its enviers tasted humiliation dank.

فَيا ابن رَسول اللَه لا زلت تَرتَقي

فَيا ابن رَسول اللَه لا زلت تَرتَقي

وَتَحسُنُ مِنّا في مَديحك أَقوال

وَتَحسُنُ مِنّا في مَديحك أَقوال

So, son of God's Messenger, may you ever rise,

O son of Allah's prophet, you still rise high,

And may our words in your praise be beautiful.

Our songs in praise keep growing, multiply.

لِأَنك للعلياء أَهلٌ وَكَيف لا

لِأَنك للعلياء أَهلٌ وَكَيف لا

وَأَنتَ كَريم الأَصل لِلخَير فَعّال

وَأَنتَ كَريم الأَصل لِلخَير فَعّال

For you are worthy of high honor—and how could you not be,

For you are worthy of the noblest men,

When you are noble-born and ever doing good?

Of pure lineage, noble deeds your pen.

وَفيكَ عَفافٌ عَن أَبيك وَفطنةٌ

وَفيكَ عَفافٌ عَن أَبيك وَفطنةٌ

وَعقل إِلى حسن الصَنيعة ميّال

وَعقل إِلى حسن الصَنيعة ميّال

And you possess chastity inherited from your father, and discernment,

In you lies decency from ancestry,

And a mind inclined toward kindly deeds,

And wisdom inclined to good industry.

وَرَأيٌ سَديد في الأُمور وَحكمةٌ

وَرَأيٌ سَديد في الأُمور وَحكمةٌ

يَزول بِها رَيبٌ وَوَهمٌ وَإِشكال

يَزول بِها رَيبٌ وَوَهمٌ وَإِشكال

And sound judgment in affairs, and wisdom

Sound judgment in affairs, insight profound,

Through which doubt, delusion, and confusion vanish.

With it doubts, delusions, problems compound.

وَفَصلُ خِطابٍ صادر عَن رِياسة

وَفَصلُ خِطابٍ صادر عَن رِياسة

بِها وَردت آيات صدق وَأَمثال

بِها وَردت آيات صدق وَأَمثال

And decisive speech issuing from leadership,

Eloquence issues from your leadership,

Concerning which verses of truth and proverbs have appeared.

Through it came verses of truth and wisdomship.

وَدُونك في الإِنشاء وَالحكم وَالقَضا

وَدُونك في الإِنشاء وَالحكم وَالقَضا

لَبيبٌ أَريب ثاقب الفهم مفضال

لَبيبٌ أَريب ثاقب الفهم مفضال

And below you in composition, governance, and adjudication

Beneath you in prose, rule and justice lies,

Is a discerning, astute, keen-minded, generous man.

A brilliant, piercing mind, subtleties espies.

وَأَنتَ عَلى رَغم الحَسود مؤيَّدٌ

وَأَنتَ عَلى رَغم الحَسود مؤيَّدٌ

بِنَصرٍ عَزيزٍ غَيثُ جدواه هطال

بِنَصرٍ عَزيزٍ غَيثُ جدواه هطال

And despite the envious one, you are upheld

Despite enviers you stay supported,

By mighty aid, whose rain of bounty pours in torrents.

With mighty aid, its benefitsported.

وَأَنتَ بِمحمود الخصال موفقٌ

وَأَنتَ بِمحمود الخصال موفقٌ

إِلى ما بِهِ في العلم تَرغب جهال

إِلى ما بِهِ في العلم تَرغب جهال

And through praiseworthy qualities you are guided

You prosper with praiseworthy traits galore,

Toward what makes the ignorant yearn for learning.

To attain the knowledge you yearn for evermore.

فَعش مَع بنيك الأَذكياء منعَّماً

فَعش مَع بنيك الأَذكياء منعَّماً

عَلَيك وَقارٌ زانَهُ مِنكَ إفضال

عَلَيك وَقارٌ زانَهُ مِنكَ إفضال

So live in ease with your intelligent sons,

Live blissful with your children wise, renowned,

Dignity resting upon you, adorned by your generosity.

Dignity from your grace surrounds.

وَفز بِالرضا وَالسَبق في الدَولة الَّتي

وَفز بِالرضا وَالسَبق في الدَولة الَّتي

يشيّدُها بِالحَزم وَالعَزم رئبال

يشيّدُها بِالحَزم وَالعَزم رئبال

And win favor and precedence in the state which

Revel in satisfaction and swift success,

A lion builds up with prudence and resolve.

In the state fortified with vigor, steadfastness.

وَزد سؤدداً ما قالَ مَجدي مؤرخاً

وَزد سؤدداً ما قالَ مَجدي مؤرخاً

لرفعة إِبراهيم يُمنٌ وَإقبال

لرفعة إِبراهيم يُمنٌ وَإقبال

And grow in eminence as long as Majdi says, recording the date:

Increase, historian, what you penned in story,

“Good fortune and prosperity attend Ibrahim's elevation.”

Of Ibrahim's glory, fortune, victory.
