أَقبلhas arrived العِيدthe feast بِالهَناwith joy وَالفَلاحِand success
أَقبل العِيد بِالهَنا وَالفَلاحِ
لِسَعيدfor Sa'id الزَمانthe age لَيثthe lion الكِفاحِof battle
لِسَعيد الزَمان لَيث الكِفاحِ
The feast has come with joy and success,
for Sa'id of the age, the lion of battle.
وَنماand grew عزthe glory مَصرهof his Egypt حينَwhen أَضحىbecame
وَنما عز مَصره حينَ أَضحى
جَيشهhis army فيin الصُفوفthe ranks شاكيbristling with السِلاحweapons
جَيشه في الصُفوف شاكي السِلاح
And his Egypt's glory grew when
his army stood fully armed in the ranks.
وَإِلىand toward لَثمkissing راحتيهِhis two palms تَدانَتdrew near
وَإِلى لَثم راحتيهِ تَدانَت
بَعدafter بُعدٍseparation عَبيدُهhis servants فيin الصَباحthe morning
بَعد بُعدٍ عَبيدُه في الصَباح
And to kiss his two palms drew near,
after separation, his servants in the morning.
وَبِحُسنand through graciousness of القبولthe reception سادواrose to eminence وَفازواand attained
وَبِحُسن القبول سادوا وَفازوا
مِنfrom مَعاليهhis greatness بِالمُنىwished-for things وَالنَجاحand success
مِن مَعاليه بِالمُنى وَالنَجاح
And through gracious acceptance they rose high and gained
from his greatness their wishes and success.
وَتَمنواand they wished لَهُfor him الخُلودeverlasting life بملكin a realm
وَتَمنوا لَهُ الخُلود بملك
صانَهُhe protected it مِنهُfrom him بِالظُباwith sword-blades وَالرِماحand spears
صانَهُ مِنهُ بِالظُبا وَالرِماح
And they wished him everlasting life in a realm
which he guarded against him with sword-blades and spears.
وَبرعدand with the thunder of الهَوانhumiliation هَدَّدhe threatened منwhoever لَمdid not
وَبرعد الهَوان هَدَّد من لَم
يَخشَfear فيin حصنِهِhis fortress أُسودthe lions البِطاحof the plains
يَخشَ في حصنِهِ أُسود البِطاح
And with humiliation's thunder he threatened whoever did not
fear, in his fortress, the lions of the plains.
زادَهُmay He increase him اللَهGod بِالسَدادthrough sound judgment وَقاراًin dignity
زادَهُ اللَه بِالسَداد وَقاراً
وَحَمىand may He protect شبلهhis cub حَليفthe ally of الفَلاحsuccess
وَحَمى شبله حَليف الفَلاح
May God increase his dignity through sound judgment,
and protect his cub, the ally of success,
ماas long as اِكتَسَتdons مصرEgypt مِنهُfrom him فيat كُلevery عيدfeast
ما اِكتَسَت مصر مِنهُ في كُل عيد
حلةa robe الفَخرof pride وَالبَهاand splendor وَالصَلاحand virtue
حلة الفَخر وَالبَها وَالصَلاح
as long as Egypt dons, through him, at every feast,
a robe of pride, splendor, and virtue,
أَوor تَسامىrose high بِشُكرهby thanking him مِنfrom among بَنيهاher sons
أَو تَسامى بِشُكره مِن بَنيها
ذُوa man of خُمولobscurity فيamid نَشوةthe intoxication of المَدحpraise صاحيsober
ذُو خُمول في نَشوة المَدح صاحي
or, by thanking him, there rises high among her sons
an obscure man, sober amid the intoxication of praise.
لَمnot يَزَلcease فيin علاهhis greatness يَنشرscatters درّاًpearls
لَم يَزَل في علاه يَنشر درّاً
جَوهرياًjewellike يزريputs to shame بِنَظمthe stringing of الصِحاحflawless pearls
جَوهرياً يزري بِنَظم الصِحاح
He never ceases, in praise of his greatness, to scatter pearls,
jewellike, putting strings of flawless pearls to shame,
وَيُناديand calls ياO مَجدglory بُشراكglad tidings to you أَرِّخrecord the date
وَيُنادي يا مَجد بُشراك أَرِّخ
فُزtriumph بعزthrough the glory of السَعيدSa'id عيدFeast الأَضاحيof Sacrifice
فُز بعز السَعيد عيد الأَضاحي
and calls: O Glory, glad tidings to you! Record the date:
Triumph through Sa'id's glory, O Feast of Sacrifice!
