ياO مَنyou who يُبارزchallenge بِالعُقوقwith filial disobedience أَباهُhis father
يا مَن يُبارز بِالعُقوق أَباهُ
اللَهGod ياO شَرworst of الأَنامhumankind أَباهُhas rejected it
اللَه يا شَر الأَنام أَباهُ
O you who challenge your father with filial disobedience,
O you who rebels against his father with ingratitude
God has rejected it, O worst of humankind!
By God, O worst of people, his father
رباكhe raised you مِنfrom كارthe trade of الشحاذةbegging طامِعاًhoping
رباك مِن كار الشحاذة طامِعاً
بَعدafter المَشَقَّةhardship فيin بُلوغattaining مُناهhis wish
بَعد المَشَقَّة في بُلوغ مُناه
He raised you by plying the beggar's trade, hoping
Your Lord raised you from the misery of begging greedily
After hardship, to attain his wish.
Until after hardship you reached what you sought
حَتىuntil إِذاwhen أَمسيتyou became صاحبpossessor of ثَروةwealth
حَتى إِذا أَمسيت صاحب ثَروة
قاطَعتَهyou cut ties with him وَقَطَعتَand you cut off مِنكَfrom you رَجاهhis hope
قاطَعتَه وَقَطَعتَ مِنكَ رَجاه
Until, when you became wealthy,
When you became wealthy
You cut ties with him and dashed his hope in you.
You cut him off and cut off his hopes in you
وَطردتand you drove out صبيتَهُhis children وَأَمّاand as for جابرٌJabir
وَطردت صبيتَهُ وَأَمّا جابرٌ
فَكسرتso you broke خاطرهhis heart وَزادَand grew عَناهhis suffering
فَكسرت خاطره وَزادَ عَناه
And you drove out his children; as for Jabir,
And dismissed his son while Kind Jābir
You broke his heart, and his suffering grew.
You broke his heart and increased his troubles
وَغلقتand you shut فيin وَجهthe face of الأَقاربthe relatives كُلِّهمall of them
وَغلقت في وَجه الأَقارب كُلِّهم
بابَthe door of المُروءةnoble conduct بئسwretched is ماwhat تَلقاهyou encounter it
بابَ المُروءة بئس ما تَلقاه
And in the faces of all your relatives you shut
And closed the door of nobility in the faces of all his relatives
The door of noble conduct—wretched is what awaits you!
What an evil recompense you have attained
