يا عليّ المَكان ساغ اِعتِذاري

عَن زَمان أَناب بَعدَ التِجاري

O you of lofty station, my apology is justified

O Ali, in this place my apology is apt

For an age that repented after its presumption.

For a time that turned away after prosperity

فَاقبل الآن يا أَمير رَجائي

فَاقبل الآن يا أَمير رَجائي

فيهِ وَاسمح بِالعَفو عِندَ اِقتِدار

فيهِ وَاسمح بِالعَفو عِندَ اِقتِدار

So accept now, O emir, my plea

So accept now, O prince of my hope

On its behalf, and grant pardon when you have the power.

In it, and pardon when able

وَارض عَنهُ فَإِنَّه جاءَ يَسعى

وَارض عَنهُ فَإِنَّه جاءَ يَسعى

بِالتَهاني إِلَيك وَالافتخار

بِالتَهاني إِلَيك وَالافتخار

And be pleased with it, for it has come hastening

And be pleased with it, for it came seeking

To you with congratulations and pride.

To congratulate you and take pride

وَانشر العَدل في بِلاد الخديوي

وَانشر العَدل في بِلاد الخديوي

طبق مَرغوبه أَتمّ اِنتِشار

طبق مَرغوبه أَتمّ اِنتِشار

And spread justice throughout the Khedive's lands,

And spread justice in the lands of the Khedive

In keeping with his wish, to the fullest extent.

An ideal layer fully manifest

وَاحسم الجور بِالعَزيمة وَاقطع

وَاحسم الجور بِالعَزيمة وَاقطع

مِنهُ ياذا الفَقار رَأس الشَنار

مِنهُ ياذا الفَقار رَأس الشَنار

And eradicate injustice with resolve, and cut off

And decisively end injustice with resolve

From it, O Dhu al-Fiqar, the head of disgrace.

And cut off, O dispeller of poverty, its head

وَاقض بِالسَبق لِلمَدارس وَاجعَل

وَاقض بِالسَبق لِلمَدارس وَاجعَل

ذكر مصر بِها رَفيع المَنار

ذكر مصر بِها رَفيع المَنار

And decree precedence for the schools, and make

And excel in schools and make

Egypt's renown through them a lofty beacon.

Egypt’s mention through them a high minaret

وَبِعَين العِناية انظر إِلَيها

وَبِعَين العِناية انظر إِلَيها

في التَراتيب نَظرة الاعتبار

في التَراتيب نَظرة الاعتبار

And look upon them with an eye of care,

And oversee them carefully

With due consideration for their arrangements.

With the eye of consideration and respect

وَامنح الخائِفين بالحلم أمناً

وَامنح الخائِفين بالحلم أمناً

حَيث أَنتَ الهمام حامي الذمار

حَيث أَنتَ الهمام حامي الذمار

And grant the fearful safety through forbearance,

And give the fearful safety through clemency

For you are the valiant guardian of honor.

Since you are the protector, defender of sanctuaries

أَنتَ يا أَيُّها الأَمير جَدير

أَنتَ يا أَيُّها الأَمير جَدير

بِالمَعالي وَبِالثَنا وَالفَخار

بِالمَعالي وَبِالثَنا وَالفَخار

You, O emir, are worthy

You, O Emir, are worthy

Of high honors, praise, and glory.

Of the heights, praise and pride

فَتهنأ بِمنصب قَد تَحلّى

فَتهنأ بِمنصب قَد تَحلّى

بِكَ وَاِزدان بِالبَها وَالوَقار

بِكَ وَاِزدان بِالبَها وَالوَقار

So rejoice in an office that has been adorned

So congratulations on an office adorned

By you, and graced with splendor and dignity.

With you and decorated with splendor and dignity

وَاقترح ما تشا عَليّ فَمَدحي

وَاقترح ما تشا عَليّ فَمَدحي

فيكَ لا زالَ يَزدَهي بابتكار

فيكَ لا زالَ يَزدَهي بابتكار

And ask of me whatever you wish, for my praise

And propose to me what you wish, for my praise

Of you ever flourishes with fresh invention.

In you continues to be innovative

زادَكَ اللَه هَيبة وَجَلالا

زادَكَ اللَه هَيبة وَجَلالا

ما تَوالى طُلوع شَمس النَهار

ما تَوالى طُلوع شَمس النَهار

May God increase your awe-inspiring dignity and majesty

May God increase your awe and majesty

As long as the sun of day keeps rising,

As long as the sun rises day after day

أَو غَدا قائِلاً لَك السَعد أَرّخ

أَو غَدا قائِلاً لَك السَعد أَرّخ

بِكَ يَزهو الدِيوان يا ذا الفَقار

بِكَ يَزهو الدِيوان يا ذا الفَقار

Or good fortune comes to tell you, 'Record the date:

Or it says to you, good morning, date it

Through you the bureau shines, O Dhu al-Fiqar.'

With you the journal blossoms, O dispeller of poverty
