حازَhas attained مولايmy lord خِصالاًvirtues
حازَ مولاي خِصالاً
دُونَهاbeneath them كُلُّall الخِصالِvirtues
دُونَها كُلُّ الخِصالِ
My lord possesses virtues
My master has rare virtues
beneath which all other virtues fall.
Beyond any virtues found
ضَنَّwas miserly بِالمالwith wealth سِواهُothers than him
ضَنَّ بِالمال سِواهُ
وَحَباand he bestowed قَبلَbefore السُؤالthe asking
وَحَبا قَبلَ السُؤال
Others were miserly with wealth,
He gives freely of his wealth
while he bestowed before being asked.
And loves to give before being asked
رَأَيُهhis judgment رَأيٌjudgment سَديدٌsound
رَأَيُه رَأيٌ سَديدٌ
وَلَهُand he has خَيرُthe best الفِعالdeeds
وَلَهُ خَيرُ الفِعال
His judgment is sound,
His view is most sincere
and his are the finest deeds.
And his actions most ideal
تاجهhis crown العزglory وَحَسبيand enough for me
تاجه العز وَحَسبي
أَنهُthat he is رَبُّmaster of المَعاليlofty honors
أَنهُ رَبُّ المَعالي
Glory is his crown; it is enough for me
His crown is honor and pride
that he is the master of lofty honors.
That he's the Lord Most High
حكمهhis ruling بِالحَقwith justice أَمضىsharper
حكمه بِالحَق أَمضى
مِنthan عَوالٍlong spears وَنصالand blades
مِن عَوالٍ وَنصال
His just ruling is sharper
His rule with truth enforced
than long spears and blades.
Prevails o'er all with might
سَهمهhis lot أَعظَمthe greatest سَهمٍlot
سَهمه أَعظَم سَهمٍ
زائدincreasing الإِقبالgood fortune عاليexalted
زائد الإِقبال عالي
His lot is the greatest lot,
His arrow the greatest shot
increasing in good fortune, exalted.
With fortune's wind in flight
ياO بَنيsons of الآمالhopes فُوزواwin
يا بَني الآمال فُوزوا
مِنfrom يَديهhis two hands بِالنَوالwith bounty
مِن يَديه بِالنَوال
O sons of hope, win
O children of high hopes prevail
bounty from his hands.
And gifts from his hand attain
نَفعهhis beneficence عَمencompassed البَراياcreated beings
نَفعه عَم البَرايا
مِنincluding عَبيدslaves وَمَواليand masters
مِن عَبيد وَمَوالي
His beneficence has reached all people,
His grace fills all the land
slaves and masters alike.
Both servants and allies
أَمرهhis command الساميexalted مُطاعobeyed
أَمره السامي مُطاع
نافذeffective فيin كُلevery حالcircumstance
نافذ في كُل حال
His exalted command is obeyed,
His lofty order obeyed
effective in every circumstance.
Rules mightily overall
فَضلهhis excellence أَشهرmore renowned مِنthan شمsun (first part of split word)
فَضله أَشهر مِن شم
سsun (completion of split word) الضُحىthe forenoon قَبلbefore الزَوالnoon
س الضُحى قَبل الزَوال
His excellence is more renowned than the sun
His merit brighter than the sun
of the forenoon, before noon.
Before the noon does fall
نَفسهhis soul أَشرَفthe noblest نَفسsoul
نَفسه أَشرَف نَفس
زانَهاadorned it حُسنُthe beauty of الكَمالperfection
زانَها حُسنُ الكَمال
His soul is the noblest soul,
His soul the noblest soul
adorned by the beauty of perfection.
Adorned in virtues full
دَأبهhis habitual practice المَأثورrecounted عَنهُof him
دَأبه المَأثور عَنهُ
دائِماًalways صدقُtruthfulness of المَقالspeech
دائِماً صدقُ المَقال
His habit, as recounted of him,
His wonted way well known
is always truthfulness in speech.
Always speaking true
يَرتَويdrinks his fill الظمآنthe thirsty one مِنهُfrom him
يَرتَوي الظمآن مِنهُ
بِسَحابٍwith a cloud مِنof نَوالbounty
بِسَحابٍ مِن نَوال
The thirsty drink their fill from him,
The thirsty from him drink
through a cloud of bounty.
