فيin مَصرEgypt سَعيدُSaʿid العَصرthe age لَهُhe has
في مَصر سَعيدُ العَصر لَهُ
بِنظامِfor the organization of عَساكرهhis troops وَلَهُa passion
بِنظامِ عَساكره وَلَهُ
In Egypt, Saʿid of the age has
In Egypt lives the happiest of ages
a passion for the organization of his troops.
With the order of his armies, and for him
وَاللَهand God لَهاto her قَدindeed أَرسلَهُsent him
وَاللَه لَها قَد أَرسلَهُ
بِالعَدلwith justice الشاملall-embracing وَالنعمِand blessings
بِالعَدل الشامل وَالنعمِ
And God has sent him to her
God has truly sent him
with all-embracing justice and blessings.
With encompassing justice and bounty
ياO مَصرEgypt لَكِfor you السَعدgood fortune الأَبديeternal
يا مَصر لَكِ السَعد الأَبدي
بِالداورِthrough the sovereign ذاthis شبلِcub of الأَسَدِthe lion
بِالداورِ ذا شبلِ الأَسَدِ
O Egypt, eternal good fortune is yours
O Egypt yours is everlasting bliss
through the sovereign, this lion's cub,
With the ruler, scion of the lion
ملكking of الأَقطارthe lands أَخيbrother of المَددِsuccor
ملك الأَقطار أَخي المَددِ
رَبlord of الإِحسانbeneficence مَعwith الكَرَمِgenerosity
رَب الإِحسان مَع الكَرَمِ
king of the lands, brother to succor,
King of all lands, my succoring brother
lord of beneficence and generosity.
Lord of kindness, endowed with generosity
ياO مَصرُEgypt لَكَfor you الحَظfortune الأَوفرْmost abundant
يا مَصرُ لَكَ الحَظ الأَوفرْ
بِمَليكthrough a king كَاللَيثlike the lion القسورْmighty
بِمَليك كَاللَيث القسورْ
O Egypt, the richest fortune is yours
O Egypt, yours is the greatest fortune
through a king like a mighty lion.
With a king like a towering lion
فيin الحَربwar لَهُhe has سَيفa sword أَبتَرْsevering
في الحَرب لَهُ سَيف أَبتَرْ
تَخشاهfear it جَبابرةُtyrants of الأُممِthe nations
تَخشاه جَبابرةُ الأُممِ
In war, he has a severing sword
In war, his sword is relentless
that the tyrants of the nations fear.
Feared by tyrants of nations
نَعمhow excellent المولودthe son مَعwith الوالدْthe father
نَعم المولود مَع الوالدْ
كنزa treasure of الإنعامbounty المتُزايدْever-increasing
كنز الإنعام المتُزايدْ
How excellent are the son and the father,
Blessed is he born to his father
a treasure of ever-increasing bounty,
Treasure of increasing favor
بحرan ocean قَدindeed فاضَoverflowed عَلىupon الوافدْthe visitor
بحر قَد فاضَ عَلى الوافدْ
برّa land of المَعروفkindness أَبوfather of الهِمَمِlofty aspirations
برّ المَعروف أَبو الهِمَمِ
an ocean that has overflowed upon the visitor,
An overflowing sea on the visitor
a land of kindness, father of lofty aspirations.
Doing good, protector of resolves
لِلسَعدgood fortune has بِدَولتهfor his reign شَغفُa passion
لِلسَعد بِدَولته شَغفُ
وَالمَجدand glory لَهُit has مِنهُfrom him شَرَفُhonor
وَالمَجد لَهُ مِنهُ شَرَفُ
Good fortune is enamored of his reign,
For bliss is his passion in his reign
and glory draws honor from him;
And glory is his noble merit
وَالخَصمand the adversary لَديهِin his presence معترفُacknowledging
وَالخَصم لَديهِ معترفُ
بِالرَأيof the judgment الصائبsound وَالشممِand proud dignity
بِالرَأي الصائب وَالشممِ
and his adversary, in his presence, acknowledges
His opponent admits to him
his sound judgment and proud dignity.
Of wise opinion and determination
وَالجُندand the army بعاليthrough the loftiness of همتهِhis resolve
وَالجُند بعالي همتهِ
يَقتنصhunts down الأَسدَthe lion بِصَولتهِwith its onslaught
يَقتنص الأَسدَ بِصَولتهِ
And the army, through his lofty resolve,
The soldiers with their lofty zeal
hunts down the lion with its onslaught,
Hunt the lion with their might
وَيَسوقand brings الحَتفdeath بِشدتهِthrough its might
وَيَسوق الحَتف بِشدتهِ
لعدوّto an enemy باغٍrebellious مجترمِcriminal
لعدوّ باغٍ مجترمِ
and brings death, through its might,
And lead the captive with their force
to a rebellious, criminal foe.
Against the hostile transgressor
ياO مَصرEgypt لَكfor you الخَيرgoodness اِفتَخريtake pride
يا مَصر لَك الخَير اِفتَخري
بِسَعيدin Saʿid الملكthe king عَلىover البَشَرِhumankind
بِسَعيد الملك عَلى البَشَرِ
O Egypt, goodness is yours; take pride
O Egypt yours are auspicious tidings
in Saʿid, king over humankind.
With King Sa'eed above mankind
فوزيwin برضاهhis favor وَاِنتَظِريand await
فوزي برضاه وَاِنتَظِري
إِحسانَthe beneficence of الصَدرthe leader المحتشمِdignified
إِحسانَ الصَدر المحتشمِ
Win his favor, and await
Win his approval and wait
the dignified leader's beneficence.
For the kindness of his noble breast
رَسختhave stood firm أَحكامكyour decrees كَالراسيlike the firmly anchored
رَسخت أَحكامك كَالراسي
وَعلتand have risen أَركانكyour pillars بالباسِthrough might
وَعلت أَركانك بالباسِ
Your decrees stand firm, as though anchored,
Your laws are firmly established
and your pillars have risen through might;
And your pillars raised with splendor
وَصفتand have grown serene أَوقاتكyour times لِلناسِfor the people
وَصفت أَوقاتك لِلناسِ
فيunder حُكمٍrule زاهٍsplendid مُنتَظمِwell-ordered
في حُكمٍ زاهٍ مُنتَظمِ
and your days have grown serene for the people
Your times arranged for the people
under splendid, well-ordered rule.
With wise and brilliant governance
ياO أَفضلfinest صَدرleader قدindeed وافىhas come
يا أَفضل صَدر قد وافى
وَأَجلّand noblest نَصيرally قَدindeed صافىshowed sincere friendship
وَأَجلّ نَصير قَد صافى
O finest leader to have come,
O best of hearts that came to pass
and noblest ally to show sincere friendship,
O noblest ally of utmost loyalty
لاnot زلتyou cease تُراقبwatch over إنصافاfairness
لا زلت تُراقب إنصافا
وَتصدّand you repel الضدّthe foe عَنfrom الحَرمِthe sanctuary
وَتصدّ الضدّ عَن الحَرمِ
may you ever watch over fairness
You still observe with fairness
and keep the foe away from the sanctuary,
And ward harm from the sanctum
وَتروحand you go at evening وَتَغدوand you go at morning بِالفَرحِwith joy
وَتروح وَتَغدو بِالفَرحِ
وَعدوّكand your enemy يُمسيspends the evening فيin التَرحِsorrow
وَعدوّك يُمسي في التَرحِ
and go forth in joy at evening and morning,
You go and come with joy
while your enemy spends his evenings in sorrow,
While your enemy ends in ruin
وَتَعيشand you live بصدرwith a heart مُنشرحِjoyful
وَتَعيش بصدر مُنشرحِ
فيamong العَسكرthe troops مَنشورَunfurled العلمِthe banner
في العَسكر مَنشورَ العلمِ
and live with a joyful heart,
And you live with an eased breast
among the troops, your banner unfurled.
In an army with fluttering banners
