كَيفَhow السَبيلthe way إِلىto مَرضاةthe pleasure of مِنone who غَضباgrew angry
وَحمّلand burdened القَلبthe heart مِنfrom فَرطthe excess of الجَفاcoldness وَصَباpain
How can I find a way to please one who grew angry
And burdened the heart with pain through excessive coldness?
وَكُلَّماand whenever رُمتُI sought قُرباًcloseness مِنهُto him أَبعدَنيhe drove me away
مِنwith غَيرno ذَنبٍwrongdoing وَلَمand did not أَعرفI know لَهُfor it سَبَباa reason
And whenever I sought closeness to him, he drove me away,
Without any wrongdoing, and I knew no reason for it.
