تَمتreached perfection بدورٌfull moons فيin سَماءsky صِناعةٍcraftsmanship
تَمت بدورٌ في سَماء صِناعةٍ
عَنهاfrom it اِنجَلىcleared غَيمٌa cloud وَزالَand vanished بِأَسرهِin its entirety
عَنها اِنجَلى غَيمٌ وَزالَ بِأَسرهِ
Full moons reached perfection in the sky of craftsmanship,
A full moon rose in the skies of creation
From which a cloud cleared and vanished entirely.
From which clouds and darkness completely departed
إِذwhen بانَfell away عَنfrom كَشفunveiling الرُموزthe symbols قِناعُهُits veil
إِذ بانَ عَن كَشف الرُموز قِناعُهُ
وَالدَهرand time جادَwas generous بِفَكهwith releasing it مِنfrom أَسرهits captivity
وَالدَهر جادَ بِفَكه مِن أَسره
When its veil fell away, revealing the symbols,
As the veil of symbols was lifted
And time granted it release from captivity.
And time generously freed them from captivity
فَهُوَfor it الَّذيthe one that أَحصىenumerated الفُنونthe arts جَميعهاall of them
فَهُوَ الَّذي أَحصى الفُنون جَميعها
وَاِنحَلَّand was resolved مشكلُهاtheir difficulty بِواضحthrough the clarity of سرهits secret
وَاِنحَلَّ مشكلُها بِواضح سره
For it is the one that enumerated all the arts,
It is he who compiled all the arts
And their difficulties were resolved by the clarity of its secret.
And unraveled their complexities with lucid mysteries
وَهُوَand it المُحيطencompassing بِكُلevery فَنart أَظرفmost elegant
وَهُوَ المُحيط بِكُل فَن أَظرف
فَاقدُمso approach عَلَيهِtoward it وَاِرتشفand sip مِنfrom ثَغرهits lips
فَاقدُم عَلَيهِ وَاِرتشف مِن ثَغره
And it encompasses every art of finest elegance;
He encompasses every refined art
So approach it and sip from its lips.
So present yourself and savor from his fountain
وَاشكرand give thanks صَنيعgood deed الداوريّal-Dawari محمدMuhammad
وَاشكر صَنيع الداوريّ محمد
فَهُوَfor he الَّذيthe one who أَحياrevived العلومthe sciences بمصرهin his Egypt
فَهُوَ الَّذي أَحيا العلوم بمصره
And give thanks for Muhammad al-Dawari's good deed,
And thank the creation of Muhammad Ali Pasha
For he is the one who revived the sciences in his Egypt.
For he revived the sciences with his will
لِمَwhy لاnot وَإِنّand indeed كَتابناour book فيin عَهدهhis time
لِمَ لا وَإِنّ كَتابنا في عَهده
جادَwas generous الزَمانtime لَدىamong الأَنامmankind بِنشرهwith its publication
جادَ الزَمان لَدى الأَنام بِنشره
Why not, when, in his time, our book
Why not, for in his era
Was generously published by time among mankind?
The age gracefully disseminated our book among the people
مُذwhen تَمَّreached completion بَدرُfull moon الطَبعprinting قُلتI said مؤرخاًmarking the date
مُذ تَمَّ بَدرُ الطَبع قُلت مؤرخاً
أَبدىbrought to light الخديويّthe Khedive الفُنونthe arts بِعَصرهin his age
أَبدى الخديويّ الفُنون بِعَصره
When printing's full moon reached completion, I said, marking the date:
Since the moon of print shone, I said as a chronicler
The Khedive brought the arts to light in his age.
The Khedive displayed the arts in his time
