وَلَئيمِ طَبعٍ باطناً

وَلَئيمِ طَبعٍ باطناً

وَجَميلُهُ لَكَ أَعلنَهْ

وَجَميلُهُ لَكَ أَعلنَهْ

And one whose nature is base within,

yet who has shown you its fair side—

لا تَغترر بوداده

لا تَغترر بوداده

لَو مِن دَهاهُ حَسَّنَهْ

لَو مِن دَهاهُ حَسَّنَهْ

do not be deceived by his affection,

even if he adorns it through his cunning.

فَالصقل يذهب وَالصَدا

فَالصقل يذهب وَالصَدا

يَربو بِدَورِ الأَزمنهْ

يَربو بِدَورِ الأَزمنهْ

For polish wears away, while rust

grows with the turning of the ages.
