وَمَدامِعاً فَوقَ الخُدود سُيولا
Enough for me is wasting away in my passion for you,
My love for you suffices me in passion's way
And tears flowing in torrents over my cheeks.
With tears flowing down my cheeks in streams

Ask about the nights I spent in love’s anguish,
Ask about the nights I spent consumed with love's fire
And during them I had taken sleeplessness as a close companion.
For I made the pillow my confidant and friend

How fine is sleeplessness! For if slumber came upon me,
A good confidant it was, for if sorrow pained me
I would see a reproacher beside the phantom of imagination.
With my imagination I would see a compassionate companion
