لَو كُنتَ في دين المَحبة مُخلِصاً

لَو كُنتَ في دين المَحبة مُخلِصاً

لَبقيت إِذ خانَ الزَمان عَلى الوَفا

لَبقيت إِذ خانَ الزَمان عَلى الوَفا

Had you been sincere in the faith of love,

You would have remained loyal when time proved treacherous.

لَكن غَدرت وَهَذِهِ لَكَ عادة

لَكن غَدرت وَهَذِهِ لَكَ عادة

وَالحَق يَظهر لِلنبيه بِلا خَفا

وَالحَق يَظهر لِلنبيه بِلا خَفا

But you broke faith, and this is a habit of yours;

And the truth is plain to the discerning, without concealment.

فَلَقَد سَمعت قَضية دَلت عَلى

فَلَقَد سَمعت قَضية دَلت عَلى

غُش الصَداقة وَالمَودّة وَالصَفا

غُش الصَداقة وَالمَودّة وَالصَفا

For I have indeed heard of a case that pointed to

Deceit in friendship, affection, and sincerity.

فَأَطع بَليداً مِنكَ صارَ مقرّباً

فَأَطع بَليداً مِنكَ صارَ مقرّباً

وَاعطف عَلَيهِ وَلا تُقابل بِالجَفا

وَاعطف عَلَيهِ وَلا تُقابل بِالجَفا

So obey a dullard who has become close to you,

And be kind to him; do not meet him with coldness.

وَاطلُب رضاه إِذ تَثنَّى غاضِباً

وَاطلُب رضاه إِذ تَثنَّى غاضِباً

إِذ كانَ هَذا الودّ لَيسَ تَكلُّفا

إِذ كانَ هَذا الودّ لَيسَ تَكلُّفا

And seek his approval when he turns away in anger,

Since this affection is no pretense.

وَإِذا دَعاكَ إِلى ارتِكاب خَطيئة

وَإِذا دَعاكَ إِلى ارتِكاب خَطيئة

إِياكَ تُبدي في الحَرام توقُّفا

إِياكَ تُبدي في الحَرام توقُّفا

And if he calls on you to commit a sin,

Beware of showing hesitation over what is forbidden.

وَأَنا كَفاني مِنكَ ما لاقَيتُهُ

وَأَنا كَفاني مِنكَ ما لاقَيتُهُ

وَاللَهُ حَسبي وَالنَبيّ المُصطَفى

وَاللَهُ حَسبي وَالنَبيّ المُصطَفى

As for me, I have had enough of what I suffered at your hands;

And God and the Prophet, the Chosen One, suffice me.
