For you, O Ismail, on the day of your arrival,

the mouths of the cradle of learning are smiling.

حَيث وافيت بامتياز جَديد

حَيث وافيت بامتياز جَديد

فيهِ إِحيا مَعالمٍ وَرُسوم

فيهِ إِحيا مَعالمٍ وَرُسوم

When you arrived with a new privilege,

wherein landmarks and traditions are revived.

وَعَلى صَهوة العُلا جئت تَسعى

وَعَلى صَهوة العُلا جئت تَسعى

بِتهانٍ فيها سُرور العُموم

بِتهانٍ فيها سُرور العُموم

And on glory’s saddle you came hastening,

with congratulations bringing joy to all.

وَلَكَ الأَرض كَالسَماء أَضاءَت

وَلَكَ الأَرض كَالسَماء أَضاءَت

وَتَباهَت بِزينة مِن نُجوم

وَتَباهَت بِزينة مِن نُجوم

And for you the earth shone like the sky,

and gloried in its adornment of stars.

وَتَناغَت بِمَدح علياك وُرقٌ

وَتَناغَت بِمَدح علياك وُرقٌ

ساجِعاتٌ تَحوم حول الكُروم

ساجِعاتٌ تَحوم حول الكُروم

And gray doves sang together in praise of your eminence,

cooing as they circled around the vineyards.

وَبحسن الثَنا عَليك تَغنَّت

وَبحسن الثَنا عَليك تَغنَّت

في لَيالي الهَنا ذَوات الفهوم

في لَيالي الهَنا ذَوات الفهوم

And beautiful praise of you was sung

on nights of joy by those endowed with understanding.

وَلمجدي قالَت مَعاليك أَرخ

وَلمجدي قالَت مَعاليك أَرخ

للخديوي بمصر حسن قدوم

للخديوي بمصر حسن قدوم

And your glories said to Majdi, “Record the date:

For the Khedive in Egypt, a happy arrival.”
