    Sa‘id has arrived in glory and joy,

    With gallantry, generosity, and gladness,

    With serenity, awe, and majesty,

    With sound judgment and consummate planning,

    فَجلت بِمَصر غَياهبُ الدَيجُور

    And rule whose full moon shone with justice,

    So the depths of pitch-black darkness cleared in Egypt;

    وَسَمَت عَلى الدُنيا بِأَبهَج نُور

    And learning was spread within her, so she was adorned,

    And rose above the world in the loveliest light;

    مِن راحَتيهِ لِموسرٍ وَفَقير

    And bounties flowed like pouring rain,

    From his two palms to rich and poor;

    ما جادَ مِنها غَيره بِيَسير

    And many benefits for humankind,

    Of which no one else bestowed even a little;

    And radiant virtues impossible to count,

    As they kept growing without abating.

    لِعَزيزها سَيف العُلا المَشهور

    So Egypt decked herself in the finest finery

    For her sovereign, glory’s unsheathed sword;

    And breathed the scent of his coming, and saw clearly,

    And freely offered her soul to the finest bearer of glad tidings.

    And Time graced humankind with a homecoming

    Like clear, sweet water for thirst in the midday heat.

    وَأَجلّ مَولى للعلوم نَصير

    I swear by your forbearance, O son of the most generous ruler,

    And the most exalted lord, a champion of the sciences;

    عَنهُم أَزالَت آفة التَقتير

    And by the blessing you bestowed upon humankind,

    Which rid them of the bane of want;

    لَما عَفوت وَجئت بَعدَ فُتور

    And by the arts you gathered for our Egypt,

    When you pardoned and came after a lull;

    وَبهمة تُرجى لِدَفع عَسير

    And by your mercy and compassion toward the people,

    And by resolve looked to for overcoming hardship;

    مَوصوفة في مَهمَهٍ وَبُحور

    And by awe in battle, and might

    Renowned in desert wastes and on the seas;

    وَنما شَذاها فَوقَ كُل عَبير

    And by Yemeni wisdom that you passed down,

    Whose fragrance rose above every perfume;

    ما حازَها ملك وَصَدر صُدور

    And by sweet speech in many tongues,

    Which no king or foremost dignitary has mastered;

    Had the hopeful not hoped that you were coming

    With victory, glad tidings, and healing for the broken,

    وَتَباعدوا عَن جيرة وَسَمير

    They would have left their homelands, dear though they are,

    And gone far from neighbors and evening companions;

    But they endured what befell them

    Until you came, and every evil passed away.

    So rule, for you are the greatest ever to lead humankind,

    And surely you are glory’s finest protector.

    لا زلت مَحفوظاً لِيَوم نُشور

    And be just, for necks bow obediently to you;

    May you ever be protected until the Day of Resurrection.

    And rejoice in your most exalted feast, and take pride

    Among us in a reign steadfast and mighty.

    And accept this praise of you, which comes as a chronogram:

    Sa‘id has arrived in glory and joy.
