بِحَمدك قَد بَلّغت جلّ مَقاصِدي

وَنَلت الأَماني في طَريفي وَتالدي

With praise to You, I have attained most of my aims,

And realized my wishes in my acquired and inherited wealth.

وَقَدري عَلى شَمس الضُحى زادَ رفعة

وَقَدري عَلى شَمس الضُحى زادَ رفعة

بِمَولد نَجل باهر الحُسن ماجد

بِمَولد نَجل باهر الحُسن ماجد

And my standing has risen above the midmorning sun

With the birth of a noble son of dazzling beauty—

بِمَولد نجل نبَّأتني بِيُمنِه

بِمَولد نجل نبَّأتني بِيُمنِه

طَوالعُ سَعدٍ في زَمانٍ مُساعد

طَوالعُ سَعدٍ في زَمانٍ مُساعد

With the birth of a son whose good fortune was foretold to me

By auspicious rising stars in a favorable time.

وسادس شَهر كانَ فيهِ ولاده

وسادس شَهر كانَ فيهِ ولاده

بِمَصر تَحلى بِالثَنا وَالمَحامد

بِمَصر تَحلى بِالثَنا وَالمَحامد

And the sixth month, in which he was born

In Egypt, was adorned with praise and acclaim.

وَفي خامس الساعات مِن لَيل جُمعة

وَفي خامس الساعات مِن لَيل جُمعة

أَتى يَزدَري في نُوره بِالفَراقد

أَتى يَزدَري في نُوره بِالفَراقد

And in the fifth hour of the night of Friday,

He came, his radiance putting the Faraqid stars to shame.

وَفي نصف هَذا الشَهر جاءَ مُبَشِراً

وَفي نصف هَذا الشَهر جاءَ مُبَشِراً

بِعز وَإِقبال لأمّ وَوالد

بِعز وَإِقبال لأمّ وَوالد

And in the middle of this month he came, bearing glad tidings

Of honor and prosperity for mother and father.

هُنالِكَ مجدي قالَ فيهِ مُؤرِخاً

هُنالِكَ مجدي قالَ فيهِ مُؤرِخاً

زِيادة قَدري لي ولادة حامدي

زِيادة قَدري لي ولادة حامدي

Then Majdi said of him, recording the date:

My Hamid’s birth brings me greater standing.
