Indeed, my longing has grown and changed my state.

So let me drink it—the wine of a sweet mouth,

A Salsabil draught, of which al-Mubarrad related

That in it lies a cure for every stubborn ailment.

Love and casting off my bridle held no sweetness for me

Except for sipping that lawful draught.

Fill the cup for me, O gazelle, and pass it round,

From a tender cheek whose flame is ablaze.

Perhaps, O boon companion, it will heal a heart

That melted when you struck it with arrows.

    O my physician—rather, O my beloved—be gentle

With a lover grown thin as a toothpick.

Do not heed a sinner who, with gilded speech,

Has adorned himself and fashioned it from error.

Through you I have become a leader among humankind,

O king who possesses wondrous beauty.

The signs of your beauty refined me until

I became peerless in speaking of love.

Grant union to one enamored of you, who has come,

After honor, to abasement and punishment.

You will earn reward through a captive who cries:

Indeed, my longing has grown and changed my state.
